Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Hanna.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Candace. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been working in the fashion industry my entire career. However, I’ve always worked in the numbers/financials. While I love my job, there’s always been a creative inside of me bursting to get out. Years ago, I noticed my friends and family always asking me to shop for them, or help them put looks together because they loved my style. I decided to give personal styling a try, and it worked out. I had my first client, she was a pleasure to work with and loved what I did, so from there I really decided to kick it into gear. I still work full time, but am hoping to transition into styling full time soon. Right now, I think I have the best of both worlds!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Of course, there are difficult clients, and you’re always wanting to do your best and make sure your clients are happy. Also, still having a full-time job can make things really difficult. I don’t have any free time, as I’m working my current job, and styling (literally) whenever I have a free moment. Balancing any type of social/family life while working and styling can be pretty difficult. The other obstacle has been trying to figure out my business model and what will work best for me; but at the end, it’s all worth it!
Please tell us about Style by Candace.
Well, right now Style by Candace is just me! I do all the styling, marketing, social media, all of it. What sets me apart is that I have no interest in being a celebrity stylist. My work is all about the everyday man/woman and it’s all about helping my clients find their confidence. While personal styling can be interpreted as a “luxury” service, I think it could be for anyone. Sure, my fees aren’t cheap, but at the end of the day it’s an investment in knowledge, and education in an effort to accomplish your style goals yourself in the future. When people think about how much they spend on clothes they don’t like or don’t wear, vs spending that money learning, they realize how valuable it is.
I’m also not about labels and price tags. I work with my clients to enhance their best features, and to really bring out their style and personality. I’m not looking to recreate anyone, or make someone into something they’re not. I’m not going to throw a bunch of trends at my clients. I’m always working with them to help them become the best version of themselves; regardless of budget, or any other restrictions.
I’m most proud of the fact that my clients emerge from the experience feeling so confident and ready to face the world. I believe everyone has the right to look and FEEL their absolute best, regardless of size, shape, or any other physical characteristic.
Everyone is special, and should feel unique and confident – I just help bring that out.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is going to get a popsicle with my dad after he picked me up from school. It was always a quick trip, but always a great time.
