Meet Caitlin Lamb of Sherman Oaks / LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Lamb.

Hi Caitlin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a self taught embroidery artist born and raised in Los Angeles. My journey into hand-stitched embroidery began as a form of artistic self-care, and provided me with a creative outlet where I could be present and stay grounded. I’ve always loved making art, but through embroidery, I was able to bring my ideas to life in exciting and unexpected ways. Needlework is a craft steeped in tradition, history, and skill – almost every culture has a version of embroidery that has been passed down through generations. Yet, for me, it felt familiar and intuitive, like I had a dormant ability that just needed to be unlocked. I was hooked, and I’ve been honing my craft and experimenting with different styles and materials ever since.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the initial challenges I faced was internal—grappling with feelings of imposter syndrome and my identity as an “artist.” It took time to shift my mindset from someone who “did art” to confidently proclaiming that I “am an artist.” This subtle shift was monumental in overcoming self-doubt and embracing my creative identity. Defining myself as an artist allowed me to grow in confidence, which in turn, bolstered my artistic expression and exploration.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My love of animals and nature are reflected in my pieces, whether it’s an original floral pattern, a custom pet portrait, or my signature bird heads on vintage photographs. Throughout it all, there are notes of joy, optimism, and authenticity that I bring to my work.

What are your plans for the future?
Creativity is very fickle, and inspiration can strike at any moment. That’s what makes art so great, and what makes art so difficult to plan. On the business side, my hope is to start selling my embroidery in other places. I’m currently a member of an all-women co-op gallery in Santa Monica called Ten Women Gallery, and I couldn’t be happier there, but I would love more exposure and more opportunities to show my work!
