Meet Bryant Vu of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryant Vu.

Hi Bryant, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my photography journey in 2013, simply taking photos and learning more about the craft as I went. In 2016, I began working with models, which became a major turning point for me and helped me discover the direction I wanted to take my photography.

Ever since then, I haven’t looked back. Like any creative journey, there have been plenty of ups and downs, challenges, and learning experiences along the way, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Photography has given me the opportunity to meet and work with so many different people, express myself creatively, and continue growing both as a photographer and as a person.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. In the beginning, one of my biggest struggles was reaching out to models and either never getting a response or having people flake on scheduled shoots. At first, it was pretty discouraging, especially when I was still trying to build my portfolio and establish myself as a photographer.

Over time, though, I learned not to take it personally. I realized that rejection and setbacks are just part of the process, especially in a creative field. Instead of letting it get to me, I learned to move forward, stay consistent, and focus on the people who genuinely wanted to work with me. Looking back, those experiences helped me develop a thicker skin and become more confident in myself and my work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize primarily in portrait photography, especially working with models. While people know me for my photography, I think they also remember me for my personality and sense of humor. I like creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment during my shoots because I believe people are able to express themselves more naturally when they feel comfortable in front of the camera.

One of the things I’m most proud of is having the opportunity to live abroad in Japan and continue pursuing photography while I was there. Being able to work with models in Japan was an amazing experience because it allowed me to meet new people, work in a different environment, and continue developing my craft outside of what I was familiar with.

What sets me apart is my persistence. When I have a particular shot or idea in mind, I’m willing to keep working at it until I get it right. I pay attention to the small details, but I also try to keep the experience fun. For me, getting a great photograph is important, but so is making sure the person I’m working with enjoys creating it with me.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Being on the swim team was probably one of my favorite parts of my childhood. It kept me busy, gave me something to look forward to, and kept me out of trouble—although I think trouble still managed to find me from time to time on the swim team!

I made a lot of great memories during those years, and looking back, I really appreciate the experiences and friendships that came with being part of a team. No matter how much time passes, I’ll always remember and appreciate my time on the swim team.
