Meet Bryan Maurice of 2nd Team Entertainment in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Maurice.

Bryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started acting when I was 10 (now 32). Used to write my own bedtime stories and have always wanted to change the world. Just moved from Portland Oregon where I honed my acting skills. I started in musical theater but the real experience didn’t start until I moved to Portland. I was a srand in and soaked up on knowledge of sets and how they work/operate. I knew I had to make my own way so I started my own “Hashtag” #MauriceMovement. I was recognized by my agent and a few producers in town. Was cast as the lead in the short film ‘Work Hard’. I’d say the rest is history but jury is still out.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all. I’ve had issues with race a lot. Being a POC actor in Portland there aren’t a bunch of roles or opportunities, and the ones that are out there are lacking. Always the sidekick or the villain and never the hero. I’ve been turned down for roles or never even considered for them, it gets hard and discouraging but now that I’m in LA my future looks bright!

2nd Team Entertainment – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is 2nd Team Entertainment and we create Film/TV/Music and even plan and throw events/parties. We specialize in the creation, production and marketing of Film/TV projects. We are known for the first season of our award-winning show ‘One Strange Happy’ (soon to be on Hulu) The thing I’m most proud of as a company is that we are Woman/Minority Male operated, we stress the importance of women/Minorities and others both in front of and behind the camera. What sets us apart is that we pay the women of our company more than the men.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
What personally defines success for me is are people paying attention? Do people watch my projects? Do they read and interact with my posts?? Am I making an impact with people and lives? If I can answer these questions with a ‘YES’ then I know I’m having success.
