Meet Bruno Romano of Romano Music in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruno Romano.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bruno. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Bruno Romano, I’m a singer-songwriter and Music Producer born in Caracas, Venezuela now living in Los Angeles, California.

Since I was a kid I’ve always been surrounded by music, my first record was a single version of BAD from Michael Jackson and I just couldn’t stop listening to it, I got into the feeling of being badass lol. I was very young but somehow I understood the power of music because it was making my days happier besides all the problems that my family was going through at that moment.

I believe that when we are young we are bigger dreamers and believers so music always helped me to go through any situation as a soundtrack for any kind of feeling I had, that’s why I couldn’t stop listening to it. I think that my brother was very influential in my early music interest, he is considerably older than me (11 years) and as a teenager he was listening to a lot of music around the house and repeating songs constantly to learn the lyrics, I was listening and singing but I never took music seriously until I got the chance to be in a school band where I experienced how was to interact with friends playing music, that’s when I definitively fell in love with it, It felt just right for me but I didn’t dedicate my self to it 100% because my father had different plans for me professionally wise.

I went to college to study Bussiness and graduated in 2008, but even that I was studying that career I couldn’t resist being part of the College Latin Jazz Band where I learned how to play percussion and guitar in private lessons.

After learning how to play some chords and covering several songs I started writing my material and that was the moment that I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to songwriting, but I was scared of not doing what my family had planned for me so it took me a long time to make that step of doing music as a profession.

After one year of graduated, I quit my job (my family business) and started studying again Audio Engineering so I could learn how to record my music and being able to work for other artist and projects where I can earn some money to keep everything moving, I worked in a studio in Venezuela for five years where I learned a lot of the Venezuelan music Industry, I made a lot of mistakes during this period, from wasting time doing drugs to being insecure about how I was doing with my music and how I was managing my relationships, but I never lost my passion and love for it so I never quit and I kept going fixing those bad habits day by day.

I was part of two bands during this period, MABAR and LA VESPER, both of them in the genre of Pop-Rock, with them I achieved to reach the top ten in the Venezuelan charts for about a year or two, I toured all the country and had so much fun on this tours, but, for differences between me and the band members we got to break up and I took a break from making music as an artist for a year at least.

During that year I just worked in the studio recording other projects and making music and sound FXs for commercials and short films, I was kind of depressed but I didn’t know it, I just kept working as a zombie but around august of 2014 I got diagnosed with Testicular Cancer and I went through surgery and two months of chemotherapy .

During this period I realized so many things, how I got into giving importance to things that didn’t matter at all, and the things that I gave for granted, so I started fixing many areas in my life unconsciously and started appreciating more and I was happier somehow. I promised myself that if I recovered from this sickness I would come back to make my music and help others to make their own because it is what I love and it is what I want to give to the world, we only have one life, so you better do what you love with the ones you love.

So, 2015 for me was a year of major change in my life, I survived cancer, I had a son named Nico, I got married to this beautiful soul called Susana and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my music career far away from all the chaos and problems that my country is going through. Here in LA, I’ve encountered different sides of myself, with new opportunities and different perspective but still very naive for the magnitude of this city, so I started this process of endless trial and error with ups and downs, and It’s been four years already, I’m happy to say that I released for the first time music independently under my name and I’ve received really good feedback but not enough to get through the big doors of opportunity, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying. I’ve met amazing people during this process and I’m getting better every day because of them, This city has taught me a lot and how to appreciate everything I have in my disposition, this is why I feel now is my best moment, I’ve bee writing, producing with amazingly talented friends and I have new material to release.

This is why this August 30th of 2019, I’ll release a new Single called “Volverte a Ver” and I’ll release a single every two months until that big door of opportunity opens, the songs will be between English and Spanish because I feel I’m a citizen of the world so I need to communicate to as many people I can reach.

During all this period I’ve worked alongside well-known musicians and producers including Alex Carapetis from (The Voidz, Wolfmother, Phoenix), Michelle Sussette (American Idol finalist 2018), Dan Warner & Lee Levin (Grammy winner producers), Rudy Pagliuca (Latin Grammy winner producer), Luke Pimentel (Mixing Engineer) and Venezuelan artist/producers such as Max Pizzolante, Guaco, Atella, Isra (Influencer) and Orlando Vitto from Interscope keeping constant close contact with them.

Also, I’ve worked as a recording engineer and did post-production at Tono Studios in Santa Monica for tv-series and commercials of brands such as Mc Donald’s, Autozone, Toyota, Ford, Honda etc, and I’ve participated as a product specialist for Empirical Labs, Serpent, Teegarden, Luke Audio Mic’s in NAMM, ASCAP and AES conventions.

So. this is my story, I feel I’m on the right track, I’m a dreamer who is far away from home trying to connect with the world on a major scale and send messages of positivity and love.

Thank you.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My obstacles have been cultural differences, also trying to have a music career while you trying to raise a family it’s been a struggle but not impossible.

But I’ve also had many blessings and support so I could say it’s been balanced because I’m still here trying and learning.

Tell us about your work – what should we know?
I do songwriting, Music Production, and audio post-production for any kind of purpose (Artist, commercials, short-films)

I’m proud of my Music Production because it is the area that has given me the most and has opened more doors for me professionally wise, I like to help others to enhance their creativity and get to they want to get.

I’m a really sensitive person and open to receive feedback, I have good communication skills so I try always to achieve a good result from the mix of my client goals and my creativity.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife, my family, my son who help me to feel loved and invincible, lol.

My mentor Rudy Pagliuca because he does not have a filter to say when I’m doing things wrong and doing things right, even tho that he can be harsh, is always for my best, also he is a well-known Record Producer so I’ve learned a lot about his work and taste.

My dad, because it is my favorite person in the world, without him I wouldn’t be able to pursue what I’m pursuing.

All my talented musician friends that have added value to my work, It would never be like it is without them.
