Meet Briana Huizar of Skin Barrier LA in Gardena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Huizar.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Briana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Starting SBLA was a leap based off of my passion and energy being so stagnant at my corporate job as an Executive Assistant.

After months of saving, soul searching, list compiling, and countless conversations with close family & friends- I finally had the fuerzas to pursue such a vision.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although I finally obtained many of the resources I needed to begin this business building- I definitely encountered unexpected struggles.

After earning my Esthetics license, I began working with a prestigious chain spa. I was ecstatic! Immediately, the whole “zen spa” atmosphere was out of the window. Just about every client coming in was entitled, upset, & willing to put me down due to looking so much younger than the 24 yr. old I was at the time.

This absolutely directed me into building a business with clientele that appreciates our relationship as a team in their skin journey. Building off of lifestyles, wellness goals, and budgets.

Skin Barrier LA – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Following my corporate spa experience, I honed in on a better audience and approach. Being a young Latina, my hopes for my business began with accessibility. Skin health and body wellness should be taught at a young age. Having a confidant in this area of your life can be so empowering. Also, being bilingual in English and Spanish became a niche that I continue to appreciate. Inherently I would want to spread products and practices of wellness to my community.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My personal definition of success is my clients’ overall happiness, my family supporting my endeavors, and my freedom with my time and finances. With these areas of my life fulfilled, I will feel as if my dream has come to fruition.

Serving others and giving facials can be taboo in our culture. I really had to define my approach to myself and my family. Latinos are also empowered and health-conscious, and I am happy to be spreading that as I move forward at any pace.
