Meet Brian Ngo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Ngo.

Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It really started in high school in 2010 when I bought my first DSLR camera and was blown away by how a camera records light, especially with long exposures. Photography for me was just a hobby like many other people that grew more and more love for it each day. I worked as a club promoter in the EDM scene after high school as my first job for White Rabbit Group back at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana. Being surrounded and working in the music industry opened a new door for me into a direction I found myself enjoying. So it was the interest in photography and music that got me to where I am today I’d say. By watching people capture these events going on with the energy of the crowds and performances going on, it was amazing to me. I use to bring my camera into these shows and took pictures. I just kept learning new things by watching different people and learning whatever I could to capture it in a way I wanted to myself. Some huge inspiration came from Scott Hutchinson (aka Scotch Photos) at the time as he was the resident photographer there. His work is amazing by the way, go check him out!

While working and now falling in love with photography, I was going to school at Fullerton College. I took some photography and graphic design, and another course geared towards Communications. I was going to pretty much going to every music festival I could attend and just fell in love with the whole festival scene. Attending these events, I met some amazing people along the way. During this time, I was just having fun, pushing my skills, and shot photos as much as I could. I managed to work with local event companies and grew my portfolio from there.

The first big gig that really made me feel like this was all possible was all this was Lighting In A Bottle 2018, shout out to J. Worra for inviting me out to work with her and capture that amazing experience. Getting to photograph at one of my favorite events made me feel like a milestone in me pushing all this. Since then, my love for photography and music has only grown that much more. Over the past couple of years, I have been super fortunate to work with many talented artists and brands out there. Being able to connect with people and capture these special moments in life mean so much to me.

Being surrounded by so many talented friends and family out there is what’s pushing me to better myself each day. Everyone’s work right now is off the charts, and it’s the community of creatives that push each other every day that I’m super grateful for. Currently, I’m finishing my degree in Communications and a certificate for Photo Communications at California State University Fullerton. This path I’m currently on is something that I’m truly grateful for, I’m enjoying every bit of it. It’s amazing to me to see where music and photography have taken me, the endless stories with all these amazing people, I wouldn’t trade it.

Shout out to my family and friends who’ve been there through it all. Much love to everyone out there, thank you so much for all your support, Seriously. Cheers!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing major really, I’m on my own path right now doing what I need to do. Just trying to live in the moment and have fun doing what I love doing. Balancing school full time, plus working part-time, and doing photography on the side was tough to keep me motivated on my creative side. I ended up quitting my job doing valet a little while ago, focused on photography, and maintained going to school full time since then. It’s been great getting to make that jump of going freelance, doing what I love, and working for yourself. Just got to make sure you always keep pushing yourself and manage time wisely. Do what you gotta do, and you’ll get there!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My name is Brian Ngo, I’m a freelance photographer/creative, I specialize in capturing live events and lifestyle photography. Something that I really enjoy doing is connecting with people and learning something from each person. Building that relationship with people, and being able to connect and share these stories through visual images is definitely a way for me to express myself. I like to capture images in my own unique perspective, playing with color and light is something that is a huge part of my work. Over the last few years, I have also gotten the opportunity to work with many talented artists and photographed at events such as Desert Hearts, CRSSD Festival, Lightning In A Bottle, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, Hard Summer, Countdown, City Hearts, Lucidity Festival, Dreamstate, and many more.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
There are so many aspects where we can put all of our successes. I think the biggest thing is to follow what you truly believe in and not let anyone’s judgment get in your way. Only you can create your happiness and at the end of the day, it’s just you. For me, being truly happy and content is a success for me I’d say. If you have a group of solid people around you and you’re doing what you love, that’s awesome! Just living in the moment and always striving to be better is something I believe in. Have fun, enjoy life, and don’t stop.
