Meet Brentwood Photographer: Cecile Boko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecile Boko.

Cecile, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started photography at the age of 12, I was not really confident with myself, to be honest, I used to hate myself and even if today I’m not that confident, I’m feeling better but it was hard for me to change my mind about myself. As I was not confident, I wanted to make people feel good about themselves, with who they are, no matter what, it was like giving an advice to someone that I do not even apply for myself. While I was helping people to gain confidence, I was hiding behind my camera, it was a great compromise for me, being able to help people without having to show myself. It was not something that I was taking too seriously at the beginning, It was only a way to help and relax. I started to take it seriously around 15 and I don’t know how but I knew social media would have a huge impact in our society, so I built all my social media and at this young age, my passion started to become my business as well, I started to build my network with social media and that’s pretty how I’m where I am today. People with who I worked love the fact that I’m this nice humble and easy working with girl, I don’t say much but I know what I want.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’m going to be honest with you, it was hard and it is still hard today… I can’t give you details about the struggles but before working with some people I kept contacting them for years!!! I’m still struggling but I keep trying, again and again, and that’s how it works.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been the crazy, funny, dreamy and weird girl (but an introvert at the same time lol) for people who know me but I was/ I am also really shy. But overall I was polite and generally respectful to adults. I loved making people that I know laugh and was really silly. I hated school, never really studied, but I’ve always got good grades.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The older I get, the more I realize what an amazing childhood I had! I made a lot of sacrifices since a young age but I don’t regret anything. My family didn’t have a lot of money, but we had a lot of experiences together. I had the chance to grew up with 2 big brothers and 1 big sister and I think my favorite memories was vacation spending with my family, my mom was doing her best for us to get some vacation (even if it was only in France), she made a lot of sacrifices too and we were enjoying the simple things of life.

What are your plans for the future?
Well, for now, my closest plan is to find a way to get a sponsor and stay for good in the U.S haha. But some of my plans after that are to have my own apartment, have enough to help my family, to visit them, to have them visit me…

Professionally, I do not want to say too much about my plans, unfortunately.
