Meet Bobbo Byrnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbo Byrnes.

Bobbo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is not unlike so many others. I was drafted out of high school to play pro ball but struggled in the minors for years before finally achieving some recognition in my 40’s and sustaining a decent career from then on.

In this analogy “pro ball” is “music business”.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was talking to a friend about this recently and saying how I don’t have any of the “Behind the Music” crashing bits in my career and he started listing things off; Those three times you were robbed on tour, the police car that hit you, the shooting in Nashville, the bus that hit you, the label deals that fell through, that label going out of business, falling off that table I climbed on… And I think it’s more what you focus on becomes your reality. Yeah, all those things happened but I’m looking forward to the next thing, the next song, the next tour, the next album, the next table… If you focus on the negative, then that’s all you’ll see.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a storytelling singer/songwriter, inspired by Jim Croce as much as Joe Strummer.

I’ve always been drawn to stories, musical or otherwise. My live shows always have a few stories strewn in between the songs and often, the songs are the stories themselves. A life on the road gives you lots to talk about.

I’ve won some awards and played over 300 shows in the past two years across most of the states and a bunch of Europe. I’m a believer in going to find your audience instead of waiting for them to come to you – which makes life during Covid very difficult for me.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would get a great Telecaster, a Hummingbird and a Deluxe Reverb, and stop chasing all the other guitars and amps out there.

Other than that, Experience comes from bad decisions and bad decisions make good stories and good stories make great songs.
