Meet Bianca Ecklund

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Ecklund.

Bianca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been in love with architecture as far back as I can remember. Even as a small child, I showed interest in how homes were designed and built. In elementary school, I struggled with academics, it was then that I was tested and diagnosed with dyslexia. As I progressed in school, my dreams of one day becoming an architect faded away.

The schooling seemed impossible so I switched gears and found another creative outlet that I really excelled in. I became a licensed hairdresser at the age of 19 and worked in a high-end Manhattan Beach salon (Bob Roy Salon) for seven years before moving to London, England for my husband’s career. That’s when it all came rushing back. While in London my husband Erik and I traveled extensively through Europe discovering endless amounts of gorgeous architecture and interior design. After four years and two kids, we headed back home to the South Bay where we bought a home a slowly started the process of a complete remodel one project at a time. This was it! After the completion of our home it seemed everyone wanted my help with their projects. Big or small, I was the go to for our friends and family’s home renovation projects. Next thing I knew l, I was doing kitchen remodels for referrals and it goes on.

One day, I received a call from a local well known Realtor, Cindy DeGarceu who also happens to be a long time friend and one of my former hair clients. Cindy had a client who purchased an incredible home on the beach that needed an update. This was my big break! I took the challenge and nailed it!! From that moment on my business seemed to be on a rocket ship. Within the first year, I had completed four whole home remodels, three kitchens and nine bathrooms! Every day I thank God for this career change that has truly fulfilled all my hopes and dreams. My business continues to grow and with each project, I gain more knowledge and love for design.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My business adventure has been mostly smooth but in the beginning it was a little crazy. I had to create a business name, open a bank account, Create a corporation, register a DBA, order business cards, create a website and an Instagram account all within four days time. This was a rough week but it all worked out. Now it’s smooth sailing!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an interior designer specializing in whole home remodels. I truly love taking a space and creating a custom design to suit my customer’s needs. No job is too big or small. I am up for any challenge thrown my way. I pride myself on building strong relationships with my clients and design team.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is completing a job and creating a space that my clients absolutely love. When my clients return to me to design their next project, that Is the ultimate compliment.
