Meet Averien Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Averien Turner.

Hi Averien, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my brand Humble Clothing Co in may of 2007. I was a 20 years old young man that was passionate about fashion. Ever since I was at the age of 12, I was always fascinated with people who dress nice, from their shoes on up. So when I got out of high school, my mother sent me through barber school to get my barber license because I had no clue what I wanted to do in life after high school. Getting my barber license was one of the best things I did in my life because it introduced me into meeting new people every day. When I turned 20 years of age, that’s when I had my vision of starting my own brand, and I knew from the beginning I wanted it to be called Humble Clothing Co. So I made my next best investment into myself, I made sure I had all my business affairs finalized then I hit the ground running.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My road in business has been a great learning experience for me, it taught me to be patience, persistent, and balanced. If it’s something that you truly want, you have to work hard towards your goal and understand that as long as you put your blood, sweat, and tears into your passion, you will look back at where you came from and be proud of the accomplishments you made. It’s been plenty of days I question myself if I’m doing the right thing. I had to listen to my inner self’ in order to understand I was heading in the right direction and to keep going. When I got over that obstacle, it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. It was like I unlocked a door, so I can go through my next challenge. But obstacles and hurdles are all a part of the process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I do for a living, I can’t possibly call it work. I call it living my passion. I have been fortunate to open a barber shop called Cutties Barber Shop with my business partner Jason Holloway, we also have a restaurant named “Southern Fried”, then we have a clothing store Humble Headquarters, where we sell my personal brand Humble Clothing Co. So when I wake up in the morning I’m always ready to get up and get to my passion. I love it, and grows fonder on me every day.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Starting a business is always a risk you are taking, this is one task that is not easy. But one thing for sure scared money doesn’t make anything. First, you have to believe in what you doing, then you have to have a plan on how you want to execute your plan, then go full force into your business. You have to believe in yourself.
