Meet Ashley Spaulding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Spaulding.

Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So I started pursuing the modeling and acting career as a child. I am originally from Cincinnati Ohio where I went to the School for Creative and Performing Arts and my majors varied between dance, vocal, and drama. I was signed to an agency back in Cincinnati as a kid where I landed my first commercial role alongside Nick Lachey for a phone company that originates in Ohio.

I also have done beauty pageants and I modeled for the fur company “Fabulous Furs” and the dancewear brand “Loshins” as a kid. I also was a part of ten episodic series called “Girls Can” when I was 12 and I and a few other girls taught young growing girls about hygiene, eating the right foods, communication skills, and how to help with our environment. I then grew up and went to college at SDSU where I studied Dance, Journalism, and Television and Film.

In my third year of college, I landed an audition for a feature film that was to be filmed overseas! And as luck seemed to have it I landed the job! So upon my first year living in LA after graduating from SDSU I flew to Norway to film a feature film, I also walked in NYFW, International Fashion Week Amsterdam, LAFW, and many other shows in between. I have always had a fascination with the arts it’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I plan to continue to pursue my dreams and book even more modeling jobs and acting jobs within the near future.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road, with growing I grew apart from friends, family and even got so down on myself at a point where I stopped believing in myself. It wasn’t and isn’t the easiest thing to do but getting through the losses of friends is what helped me to eventually grow myself. I also suffered a medical issue when I was 18 years old, I ended up being in a hospital for about 4-5 weeks. My lungs collapsed, it was a random and totally unprecedented incident and I had to deal with that as well.

As a sophomore in college, I was ultimately surprised that this type of thing can happen to a person, let alone me! But here I am six years later and doing a lot better. I haven’t had any issues with my lungs thus far so I know I’m on a much healthier and better path for myself. Because at the time that this happened I didn’t even know what was going on or that I was in trouble

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a freelance model and actress. I have yet to sign myself with an agency because I know I should do more before I take that leap. But I am very proud of making it to IFW-Amsterdam and NYFW. I, of course, want to experience and do more but that will come with time! I am very proud of those accolades. I think what sets me apart is my willingness to learn and to take any job I can get… lol in moderation. I just want to succeed in anything I set my mind to and I’m just waiting for that big job that finally gets me to where I know I can be.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over I would definitely try harder and not be as lazy as I have been. There have been multiple opportunities I have missed out on due to my being “too tired” or just not motivated enough. I think this goes back to my struggles I need to have more of an active hunger for what I want instead of a passive one. That is definitely something I’m working on even now.
