Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Faith.
Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I wanted to be just like my dad and become a teacher. I have always looked up to my parents on all accounts. Once I started high school, I realized that who I was trying to become isn’t who I truly wanted to be. I discovered that I really had a creative bug and wanted to explore that more, rather than my goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. My interests developed into acting, modeling, singing, performing, and fashion. My parents were nothing but supportive as over the years, I consistently changed my career path. We went through modeling classes, acting classes, a pageant, acting auditions and more, in hopes of narrowing in on what it was I wanted to pursue. They truly were troopers with me in discovering where God truly wanted me in my career. Two and a half years ago, I excepted a job offer as a Visual Merchandiser for a retail store. That job allowed me to grow and express my creative juices in the fashion industry.
While working there, I continued to attend college at Fullerton Junior College and started the fashion merchandising program that was being offered. That is where I truly fell deeper in love with the fashion industry and even more in love with the fashion styling world. A year later, I made the bold and scary decision to pause my college path and decided to start my journey as an assistant to an amazing celebrity stylist named Desiree Morales. Through her, I was able to help with numerous red carpet looks, campaign shoots, music videos, magazine editorials and so much more! I have been able to work with other stylists in the industry as well over the last year and a half. Through these stylists, I have been able to work with celebrities like Kanye West, Alyson Stoner, Marisa Tomei, Lilly Singh, and many many more. I am truly grateful for the opportunities God has blessed me with. Through these awesome opportunities, I have developed prominent knowledge in how to successfully grow my business as an independent stylist in the fashion community.
Has it been a smooth road?
In no way, shape, or form has this journey been a smooth one. I made bold and scary decisions to put college on hold and quit my full-time stable job to make this dream a reality. The fashion styling industry is very demanding and not an easy road. So many people also think that this job is about “playing dress-up” all day; but it really is so much work, long hours and lots of driving! But with all of that said, it is one of the best experiences & challenges! I’m so blessed that this is my path & career. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a freelance fashion/wardrobe stylist. I mostly specialize in celebrity and red carpet styling but have recently branched out into personal shopping for the everyday person, as well. Although freelance and entrepreneurship is such a trend lately (in every good way!) it also is a tough and unknown journey. I truly am proud that I have been able to make the connections I have made, had the experiences I have been blessed to have, and developed the knowledge I continue to build up. When most people think of a fashion stylist, they see dollar signs and celebrities. My goal as a stylist is to have the everyday person see that a fashion stylist can be affordable and just as much a necessity for them as it is for Kanye West when he steps out on the scene for New York Fashion Week. My goal and mission as a stylist is to serve the community and bring awareness that this industry is not just for celebrities, but can also be for anyone who wants to look their best on a first date, job interview, vacation getaway, etc.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I truly believe that the greater Los Angeles area is one of the best cities to get your feet off the ground with styling. I mean, Hollywood alone is a good enough reason to start a styling business in LA! There is a ton of exposure and resources in LA.
