Today we’d like to introduce you to Anson Li.
Hi Anson, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got into marketing through music. I wanted people to hear what I was making, so I had to learn how to reach them. That meant figuring out who the audience was, how to talk about the music, and how to give people a reason to listen.
I went on to study marketing at California State University, Long Beach, and found that I really enjoyed the mix of creativity, psychology, and data. I liked making things, but I also wanted to understand why something worked and how to make it better.
My career took me through eCommerce, SaaS, paid media, SEO, email marketing, and analytics. I worked with larger companies, startups, and small businesses. Larger companies taught me the value of testing, measurement, and having a clear process. Small businesses taught me how important it is to choose the right priorities and make the work manageable.
Over time, I kept seeing a gap. A business might have someone running ads, someone handling the website, and another person sending emails, but the owner was still responsible for connecting everything. There was plenty of activity, yet it wasn’t always clear what was helping the business grow.
That’s why I started Moorpark Marketing. I wanted to give small businesses access to a marketing department that could connect the strategy, do the work, and explain the results. The goal is to help owners make better decisions and spend less time trying to manage all the pieces themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building the business while doing the client work has been the biggest challenge. When you’re the founder, you’re also handling sales, proposals, onboarding, delivery, and all the decisions that come with running a company. It’s easy to stay busy and still leave the business itself waiting for attention.
I’ve had to learn to treat Moorpark like one of our clients. What needs to improve first? What can wait? What can I put in place now that will make the work easier next month? Documenting how we work and making time for follow-up have become just as important as delivering the work itself.
Another lesson was learning to explain the business more clearly. I could talk for a long time about paid media, CRM, websites, SEO, and analytics. But a business owner usually comes to us with a more immediate concern: they need more bookings, don’t know whether their ads are working, or are losing track of inquiries.
I’ve gotten better at starting with that concern and helping them understand what needs to happen next. I’ve also learned to be more selective about fit. Clear expectations and a shared understanding of the goal make the relationship better for everyone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Moorpark Marketing?
Moorpark Marketing helps small businesses plan, run, and measure their marketing without having to hire a full internal team. We’re based in Los Angeles, and our work can include paid advertising, websites, local search, SEO, email marketing, CRM, and reporting.
We start by understanding what the business needs to improve. Is it getting more qualified inquiries? Turning more of those inquiries into bookings? Bringing customers back? Then we look at what’s happening now and decide where to focus.
Sometimes the next step is a new campaign. Sometimes it’s fixing tracking, making a website easier to use, or improving how the business follows up with people who have already reached out. Those connections matter. More traffic won’t solve a follow-up problem, and a busy dashboard doesn’t help much if the owner still can’t tell what’s working.
What sets us apart is taking responsibility for connecting that work. We help set the priorities, carry them through, and make the results understandable. I want an owner to feel comfortable asking questions and to get a straight answer, including when something isn’t worth spending money on yet.
I’m proud of building a business around that kind of relationship. Small business owners carry a lot, and good marketing support should help them feel clearer about their decisions.
