Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Mischio.
Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up always being very inspired by art, and I knew from a really young age that I wanted to dance professionally for a living one day. When I was 15, I told my mom I wanted to move to Chicago and take dance seriously. My incredible family packed up our little Wisconsin home and moved to the city. I completed high school online while working at a restaurant and training in a professional dance program.
When I graduated high school, I moved from Chicago to New York City to start a new training program. After living it up in New York City, I decided it was time to make the big move to LA.
LA was no walk in the park for me. I worked three different jobs to support myself and be able to live on my own and dance. I’ve worked every job imaginable, but I’m grateful that all those experiences lead me to where I am today.
After about a year and a half after my move, I started booking jobs consistently enough to make dance my full-time job, which I am beyond grateful for. At the same time that all of these amazing things were happening, I noticed so many problems with my body. I felt so sick all of the time, to the point where I couldn’t go to classes anymore. I couldn’t find any help with my normal doctors who all just wanted to put me on different medicines. I was so fed up with this mystery illness that was keeping me from doing what I loved.
That’s what triggered me to begin my wellness journey. I talked with a nutritionist, more doctors, and did so much research myself. Now, I am fully healed, and I’m so thankful that I can help others with what I’ve learned about health and wellness.
When COVID-19 hit and Los Angeles shut down the entertainment industry, I decided to share my story and dive into health and wellness. I started my own blog to share health tips, recipes, and wellness hacks.
I am currently running my blog full time, as well as dancing professionally. It’s busy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has definitely been bumpy. I started working at my dance studio when I was 13 to help pay for the expensive dance life. Once I moved out, I continued to work at bars, restaurants, dog walking, salons, smoothie bars, cleaning. You name it, I’ve probably done it. I even worked as a personal chef in Beverly Hills for a while!
It was hard working so many jobs in LA when all I wanted to do was dance. Getting rejected at auditions hurt, and sometimes I felt like I should give up.
I also experienced some mysterious health issues about a year ago. I was in so much pain, my body would sometimes keep me from going to classes and dancing. This was so hard on me, and not knowing what was the cause of this was the most frustrating.
Eventually, we discovered the problem, and I healed myself through eating the right foods and taking care of my health in a natural way.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a professional dancer, I’ve danced on movies, award shows, music videos, commercials, and a tour. I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had, and I will continue to work hard to make more happen!
Once the pandemic hit the United States, the entertainment industry shut down and everything changed. I had always been asked about my health and what I eat, so I decided it was time to make a platform to share this and help others! I now share my health and wellness tips for people striving to make healthier choices and live a clean, healthy life.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have so many people that have helped me get to where I am today. I would be absolutely nowhere without my two amazing parents, Greg and Sharon Mischio. They are truly my biggest supporters and they have sacrificed so much to allow me to live my dreams.
My boyfriend, Jake Brandorff, and my best friend Myranda Gibson are also professional dancers. They have been such rocks in my life, and always keep me together.
Michelle ‘Jersey’ Maniscalco has been one of my believers since day one, and she’s actually who helped get me signed with my amazing agency, GTA.
Mykell Wilson, one of my mentors has also had a huge effect on my career. He believed in me when I didn’t, and has always pushed me to be my best.
