Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Thomas Friis.
Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When does enough become enough? How many nights do we cry alone or look into a mirror and disapprove of our own image looking back at us?
From a turmoil ridden childhood to several toxic relationships, I was in a spiral pattern of repeat behaviors and believing the lies people told me about myself but never really knowing who I was.
Somewhere inside me, I knew I didn’t deserve to feel this bad because of other peoples junk, (I will call it) but I didn’t know how to break free out of old cycles.
ENOUGH
After years of struggling with self-confidence, abuse, internally and externally, being bullied and suffering from depression and anxiety.
I finally said, “enough.” I could no longer silence my spirit.
I could no longer take another anxiety-ridden day, and I knew I needed to get out of this situation, turn my life around if not for me, then how about for my kids, who I knew needed me to guide them in a healthier way.
ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH
One day I had the courage to pack up and leave and take my life back.
I packed up my children and became a single mother, working three jobs, and going back to college to get a degree in Liberal Arts and a minor in Psychology.
To pay my bills, I went back into my chosen career of makeup (mind you, I got my Cosmetology degree 20 years prior).
I worked, took more lessons and met some of the right people, who loved my makeup work, to which, I had the pleasure of working on some famous faces, and this is where I began to meet some of my mentors.
They taught me to believe in myself, and I began to break old behaviors, with the help of counselors, a shaman, and life coaches.
I began a transformation period.
During this growth period, the goats entered my life.
As I drove down the road after work on this particular day, I looked to my
left and fenced in, I noticed a few goats in my neighborhood.
I stopped my car, went up to the fence to pet them, and to my surprise, they actually came running up to me.
They allowed me to pet them, I asked
the owner if I could come back to visit with them again and he said yes, this was the beginning of what would be our friendship.
After I left, I noticed how much more relaxed I felt, my inner turmoil seemed to dissipate with each visit
and at this point, I realized the incredible healing powers they brought to my soul.
This is how The Mending Muse started to form.
I will share with you again the wisdom I gained.
With each mantra or flip of the card, you to can begin your journey.
Has it been a smooth road?
My current husband is actor Larry Thomas, aka Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi and he also is a Co-Creator with the cards, sometimes working with a spouse can be exhilarating. We have so many different ideas floating around it was a challenge to pick the best of them. My husband also wrote and sang my theme song for the business.
Plus when I started this line, I was a single mom without support or direction just an idea to inspire.
Designing products, finding the right inspiration for the line that merged with my beliefs, copyrighting, and legalities.
Finding varied causes to merge with and support.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Mending Muse – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Since I am the CEO, I oversee all aspects of the business with my husband. I was first a Makeup Artist with a flare to tap into others soul while doing makeup and give them the vision to see their own beauty that I could see.
I then became a goat wrangler, and the goats taught me how to believe in myself without letting obstacles get in my way.
So I think once we can connect t with all walks of life, this is a gift to share with not only humans but animals as we are all connected and can learn from one another.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love the creative energy that you can find on every corner.
I dislike the traffic and the way it brings out so much negatives in people.
The journey of life is down each the road, and I wish people would just slow down and enjoy the ride.
