Meet Andrew Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Young.

Andrew Young

Hi Andrew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My musical journey began at an early age. I spent my teenage years playing guitar and writing songs on my own. In 2012, I had my first real professional recording experience with a producer and other experienced musicians to turn my song ideas into fully produced-sounding music. Through this experience, I decided that making music and being an artist is what I want to do in life. I went on to release the songs I’ve worked on, play local shows around Los Angeles, and also record more songs. Putting myself out there as an artist helped me to find friends and team members. In 2016, I started working as a guitar instructor and was also learning how to produce and mix music on my own. As I was teaching, I was also learning so much about music, business, relationships, and felt a sense of fulfillment through my students. Developing my skills and knowledge in music production and mixing not only meant being able to do it for my music but also for other artists and bands. I was becoming obsessed with the art of recording and mixing, and I wanted to switch career paths into just doing that. While I taught guitar lessons, I also worked on building a client base for my own freelance production and mixing services. In 2019, I started a new artist project for myself called Acid Rescues. The name was inspired by stomach relief medicine, and the genre of music would be indie pop. Currently, I am just working on growing as an artist and also providing my mixing and mastering services.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was trying to transition from my teaching job to doing only freelance work as a music producer and being an artist. Making that move meant that I would have to find work myself in order to pay the bills. It required me to not only focus on my craft but to do some personal development, too. I had to work on being a professional, reliable, likable, and hireable person. In 2022, I took the leap from working at the guitar school to doing production and mixing as my main source of work. Being able to stay on the music journey and experiencing all the ups and downs is the real reward of it all.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do? What are you known for? How did you get to where you are today?
As I was spending more time teaching and producing for others, I cut back on focusing on my own music and artistry. I was more in the mindset of trying to produce and develop other artists. But eventually, I thought to myself, “Why don’t I just be that artist that I develop?” I started my artist project, Acid Rescues, in 2019 because I want the music and branding to be newer and more different than what I was making under my regular name, Andrew Young, back then. Also, because it is one good way to showcase the writer/producer/mixer side of myself.
