Meet Alice-Jean Fraser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice-Jean Fraser.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, the first time I hit the stage, I was casted as Goldilocks! I was about 4 years old, I believe. Don’t remember much of the experience except practicing my scream for when I get caught by the 3 Bears. Then on performance day, I recall seeing the audience, which gave me stage fright, then barely letting out a scream.

However, I still decided, this career is the one. From then on, I started doing community theatre, school plays, after-school dance and choir practice, I even played the violin for roughly 5 years! Anything, in the arts, that involved a performance, I was in it! I went on to study Drama and Theatre Arts in school and attain my qualifications, which then led me out here to Los Angeles where I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts – Acting for Film.

Of course, just like anyone else, As you get older, you fall in love with other things along the way. I’m soon to be 21 this August, and I’m still exploring the other arts! I adore fashion, as well as writing. I’m a major bookworm. I began reading many novels and literature as a young girl, then went on to study Literature for my final high school years.

This caused me to have an interest in wanting to write my own content one day too, who knows, maybe even a novel!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think anything worth doing is never going to be smooth sailing. A major one at the beginning was worried parents! I think they assumed I’d grow out of acting soon enough, and study towards something they deemed a more reliable career, like law or nursing.

My mother is a nurse, and she’s been very successful at it. She’s living proof. However, I turned 16, nothing had changed so they grew nervous, but once they saw they couldn’t talk me out of doing the acting on the side, and having a backup, they became supportive. I had support from my siblings with talking our parents into it too, so I had help! Now everyone’s on board! Secondly, figuring out my steps as I go. The scariest thing about acting is that there’s no one way to become successful. Everyone’s story is unique.

Therefore, you have to decide what works for you, which is very daunting because you never know if you’re bettering or hurting your career. Deciding to move or stay in London, was tough, but I decided to do what I’ve never done before, to see if I can achieve results I’ve haven’t had. Also, keeping the faith. No one is going to push you more than you, you have to be your own cheerleader, you’ve got to keep encouraging yourself!

Alice Jean – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m an actress! That’s what I mainly do and I’m known for. However, I think what sets me apart is I love to do behind the scenes work too! I’ve mentioned that I love to write, but I’ve also been a producer, a production assistant, an assistant director, production designer, gaffer, editor and a boom operator here and there! I came to pursue acting, but the most learning came from coming off the set and seeing the work behind, what’s more, I loved it too!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
People finding me on social media to inform of their thoughts and opinions on my work so far! It’s so uplifting to be told that what you’re doing isn’t in vain. Whether it’s praise or critique, I welcome it all. Just to be recognized and have someone take the time out to reach me and talk about it. I welcome it! It might sound small, but it really goes a long way.
