Meet Alexia Verbeke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Verbeke.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story as a performer started back in middle school when I realized that I loved making people laugh and being my goofy self. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression from an early age, it helped to laugh. I wanted to do the same for others and pay it forward. I was lucky enough to realize this truth about myself early on because it gave me the momentum I needed to make a move from Florida to LA in 2014.

Initially, I only moved out here to pursue acting. I discovered improv comedy and fell in love. I had always loved writing and creating short stories, and I began to write sketches and shooting them. I wanted to create opportunities for myself instead of waiting around for them. Once my videos started getting a positive response, I pushed myself to expand beyond sketch comedy, and I started writing pilots for TV.

I’ve written five comedy pilots, two of which I’ve shot sizzles for, and am currently writing my first feature!

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not. In fact, I think that if it were a smooth road, I wouldn’t be in comedy in the first place. Every struggle I’ve had has inspired me in one way or another. It’s also made me who I am today. Every video, sketch, or performance piece I’ve done can be traced back to my experiences, good or bad.

As Carrie Fisher wisely said, ‘Take your broken heart, make it into art.’ So if you see me walking on the street, feel free to throw banana peels at me. You’d be helping my writing!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I would say I’m known for my sense of humor and wackiness. And my extensive knowledge of 60s rock ‘n’ roll bands. I’m most proud of my ambition and the content I’ve put out.

What sets me apart is my attitude of ‘I’m not gonna wait around for someone to say ‘yes’ to me, I’m gonna consistently work to put myself in a position where I can be the one to say ‘yes.’
