Meet Alexey Figurov of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexey Figurov.

Hi Alexey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Alexey Figurov. I’m a director and producer based in Los Angeles. We started here with smaller music videos, and the work gradually grew into bigger productions and international collaborations. Each project gave us more experience and a chance to take on something we hadn’t done before.
My wife, Anna Figurova, has been part of this from the beginning. She writes scripts and edits our videos. We work closely together, from developing an idea to finishing the edit. So much happens between those two points, and we’ve built our production work together through all of it.
Over time, my projects have included Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Luísa Sonza, Xzibit, ALOK and Shady Records. Working with different artists has helped me grow as a director. Every project has its own character, and I enjoy finding the right way to bring it to the screen. Our videos have also received recognition at film festivals.
As the productions became bigger, I became more involved in making them happen. I started connecting artists, finding partners and sponsors, and putting projects together before we reached the set. Producing grew naturally out of that. Today, I’m often involved from the first conversation through the shoot and the final edit with Anna.
More recently, that work has included K-pop groups and international collaborations, with projects involving the Vegas Golden Knights, Palms Casino Resort and Resorts World Las Vegas. This year, I also worked as a producer on a film, handling all the production arrangements in Los Angeles. I’m excited to keep developing that part of my work alongside music videos.
There have been a lot of difficulties, and there still are. A finished video only shows a small part of the work that goes into it. Anna and I keep learning, solving problems and trying to make each production better. We care about what we make, and that’s what keeps us going.
LA is an incredible place to work with so many talented people. I enjoy bringing a team together and seeing what everyone adds to a project. We’re doing work we love, our production is growing, and we have big plans ahead. It feels like we’re just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been easy. I started as a director, but as the projects got bigger, I had to learn how to organize the whole production. You can have a great idea, but you still need the budget, the right people and a plan that works for everyone.
Working with artists from different countries can be complicated too. There are different schedules, time zones and teams, and getting everyone ready takes time. Sometimes things change after you’ve already put a lot of work into them. That’s hard, especially when other people are depending on you.
Anna and I have had stressful periods, and we still do. We don’t always have an answer straight away. We talk things through, work out what we can do and take it from there. Having each other helps a lot.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Director and Executive Producer working mainly on music videos and commercial projects through my company, FIGUROV LLC, in Los Angeles.
As a director, I develop the concept and work out how to bring it to the screen. That means everything from the overall look and locations to the artist’s performance and the way we shoot each scene. I work closely with the cinematographer and production designer, then stay involved through the edit, color and VFX. I enjoy that whole process, especially seeing how an idea changes and gets better as the team contributes to it.
As an executive producer, I’m responsible for helping the project happen in the first place. I connect artists and their teams, find partners and sponsors, and put the production together. Some projects arrive with a clear brief. Others start with an idea or a conversation, and there’s a lot to build before we can talk about a shoot date.
My work has included projects with Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Luísa Sonza, Xzibit, ALOK and Shady Records, as well as the Vegas Golden Knights, Palms Casino Resort and Resorts World Las Vegas. Working across music and brand projects has taught me how to bring different expectations into one production while keeping the creative idea clear.
A recent project I’m particularly proud of is the collaboration between Luísa Sonza and a K-pop group X:IN. I brought the artists together, secured the sponsor, and served as Director and Executive Producer for the music video in LA. It involved teams in different countries and a lot of coordination before we reached the set. Seeing those conversations become a finished video was a great feeling.
This year, I also produced the Los Angeles portion of a film, handling all the local production arrangements. I’m continuing to develop that side of my work alongside music videos and commercials.
What I bring to a project is the ability to stay with it from the first idea through delivery. I understand the creative side and the practical decisions needed to get it made. I like being the person who can bring everyone together, work through the problems and then get behind the camera with a clear plan.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a very active kid. I loved sports, especially soccer. When I was 17, I got into filming. It started as a hobby, and over time it became my career. Back then, I was just enjoying making videos. That’s how it all began.
