Meet Alexandra Brown of Good Active

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Brown

Hi Alexandra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a corporate girl of 10 years in the social & content space that worked my way up the ladder at some fantastic companies, all while living with the underlying feeling that I while I found “success” in the career sense, I had another purpose that hadn’t yet been fulfilled. During the Black Lives Matter movement, while I was attending every protest and participating in as many volunteer activations as I could, I noticed my mental health slowly deteriorating as I watched the lack of resources and support for so many underserved communities across LA. It was then that I conceptualized the initial idea of what become known as Good Active.

As someone who always prioritized movement and physical health, I knew I wanted to combine my love for that, philanthropy, and bringing together community – so others didn’t have to feel alone in a city that can often that so lonely. I envisioned a community wellness brand that created safe, accessible, affordable, inclusive, welcoming spaces for like-minded people to come together in the name of becoming a little bit better each day. A brand that would help like-minded people lean into community, redefine the traditional view that wellness means perfection, and help others feel seen who just want to lean into their personal growth while making mistakes along the way. A brand that facilitated spaces where practitioners can share their gifts with community members who need it most, support charities doing the important work on the ground, and give back to others who need it most.

In 2024, after many years of trying to convince myself why I shouldn’t take the leap, how hard it would be, and all the struggles I may face along the way, I finally decided to quit my cushy full time job and dive head first into building Good Active. As an LA native, I had been to many different wellness events across LA, and didn’t often feel like I saw myself at any of them, so I felt proud to create it.

6 months in and it’s still the best decision I’ve ever made – despite the difficulties of starting a business mostly all being true. I am living in my purpose, connecting like-minded humans to each other, and helping underserved communities along the way. A dream.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth, but crazy beautiful. While I continuously feel lucky to be living out my purpose every single day – the truth is, when you step into your alignment and when you are growing in many areas of life and business, you’ll encounter people that will try to tear down or diminish your hard work and what you’re building. I’ve dealt with this since the beginning and still do to this day, but my incredible support system, the people that believe in the mission, and my unwavering belief that what I’m doing matters will always far overshadow those who want to see me fail. I see the future of this brand and its impact on the lives of others is what keeps me going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Good Active?
Good Active is a health & wellness community with a monthly membership called Team Active that hosts events and activations across LA and donates a portion of proceeds to various charities.
We’re here to make holistic wellness accessible, and to create non-judgmental, safe spaces where like-minded people can connect, grow, and understand collectively that the word wellness doesn’t mean perfection. For us, it means working at becoming a little better each day.

Each of our events are curated differently and that’s done intentionally in order to lean into the various types of people who might attend. Some of our community members love personal development, some love high intensity workouts, some love trying niche forms of movement, others just want a space to tap into their emotions, and some love anything to do with mental health. We are inclusive, not exclusive. We are created for the community – meaning every type of community member. There will always be a place at Good Active for you as long as your mission is supporting yourself and supporting others.

What sets us apart from others is our give back element. We donate a portion of all event proceeds to charities each month. Philanthropy and supporting nonprofits that have already been doing the important work is always at the core of everything we do. We are out to make a difference in the world and in the lives of those who need it most. We work to provide wellness to the Los Angeles community and support to underserved communities.

I’m most proud of the community we’ve cultivated through the intentionality of our events. The practitioners we partner with, the team we work with, the community who show up for themselves and for others, and the monthly members who trust us enough to be part of our work. That is what we’re most proud of – Doing right by them.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to remember your why. It can be so easy as an entrepreneur to get caught up in the success of it all – scaling bigger and better as fast and as powerfully as you can. Stay rooted in your mission. Every brand is rooted in some way, towards the benefit of others, no matter the product or service. Remember the impact you want to make in people’s lives vs. your own validation or rewards. The success will always come if you’re in it for the right reasons.

The last piece of advice I’d give is to remember your power. You will face a lot of turbulence trying to build something amazing, a lot of people that want to see you fail, a lot of obstacles you never expected or will be dealing with for the very first time. These things are guarantees. During these moments, lean into this quote: “you can’t break an alchemist. They’re only strengthened by whatever you throw at them.”
