Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajay Vadukul.
Hi Ajay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working in finance when I was 18 years old. I’m the son of Indian immigrants who came to the U.S. with very little, and I grew up watching my parents work incredibly hard and make sacrifices so my brother and I could have a better life here.
As I got older, I started noticing something that shaped everything for me: my parents were excellent at earning money and being disciplined with it, but they didn’t fully understand how the American financial system worked. Things like investing, compound interest, retirement accounts, tax strategies, and protection during downturns were foreign to them. They weren’t alone either. I saw the same pattern in many other immigrant families and hardworking households; these were people doing “everything right”, but still did not have the guidance or structure to turn their work into long-term wealth.
That’s what pulled me into the industry. My mom originally introduced me to financial services, and I got my start in life insurance. It was a great foundation because it taught me how powerful financial education can be and how much people need clarity when it comes to their money. However, the more I learned, the more I realized that selling products wasn’t the same as helping families grow long-term wealth. Real impact comes from seeing the full picture: investments, taxes, estate planning, protection, cash flow, and the behavioral side of money.
After working at a few different firms, I became frustrated with how profit-driven the industry could be. Too many companies focused on what they could sell and not what clients actually needed. That’s what eventually led to the biggest leap of my career.
In 2020, my business partner, Charles Luong, and I co-founded Endeavor Advisors. I’ve known Charles for about 15 years – given he actually worked with my mom early in his career – and watching his growth, values, and commitment to clients made it an easy decision to build a new company together.
Five years later, we manage just under $100 million for hundreds of families. But what I’m most proud of isn’t the number; it’s the kind of firm we’ve built. Our work is about much more than investment management. We help people use their money as a tool to build a life they actually enjoy: travel, family, freedom, and a confident retirement.
And honestly, I’ve learned that most people don’t have money problems – they have clarity problems. Fear, habits, media noise, and a lack of guidance are what hold people back. That’s why we take such a holistic approach to financial planning. We want to give people confidence, reduce stress, and help them make decisions that align with the life they’re trying to build.
At the end of the day, Endeavor Advisors exists because we’re building the kind of financial planning firm my family would have trusted: proactive, personal, and genuinely focused on helping people do life well. We’re not here to just grow money, we’re here to help people build a life they’re proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Endeavor Advisors was definitely not smooth; in fact, it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
When Charles and I launched the firm, we had no playbook. No one was out there saying, “Here’s how we scaled a firm the right way,” or “Here’s how we built a practice that takes care of clients and your family.” It was really just the two of us figuring everything out from scratch, structuring a partnership, building a fee model, navigating compliance, getting licensed as a Registered Investment Advisor, choosing custodians and vendors, and creating an investment and financial planning process we could truly stand behind.
And at the same time, I was going through a major identity shift personally. Going from employee to owner is a totally different mindset. I was not just showing up and doing what I was told, but instead responsible for the outcomes, the culture, the client experience, and the team. On top of that, life didn’t simply pause just because I was building a company. I was learning how to be a better partner, not only to Charles and the firm, but also to my then-girlfriend who stuck with me through that season and is now my wife. We had real curveballs too… I still laugh thinking about it, but I even had my catalytic converter stolen off my Prius in the middle of everything. It sounds small, but when I was already stretched thin, things like that felt like the universe was testing me.
The first year in particular was brutal. Income was low, uncertainty was high, and every decision felt like it carried extra weight, because one mistake could set us back months. There were definitely moments when it would’ve been easier to go work at a big-name firm and opt for stability. But, that pressure forced us to grow up fast. We made mistakes and learned quickly, and over time, we replaced the salaries we had walked away from.
Over the next few years, we refined everything. We got clarity on who we served best and learned to say no to the wrong fits. I found my lane working with firefighters and almost-retirees, while Charles leaned into business owners, real estate investors, and federal employees. That clarity made a huge difference in both our client experiences and the strength of the firm.
Looking back, the biggest lesson for me is how much ownership and adaptability it takes to build something meaningful. This journey has been more turbulent than most people see from the outside, but those challenges shaped our foundation. They strengthened relationships, sharpened our leadership, and defined the culture we’re most proud of today: one built on service, excellence, shared stewardship, and resilience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Endeavor Advisors is an independent financial planning and wealth management firm with roots in Phoenix and Southern California. At our core, we help successful professionals and families, especially those who are five to ten years away from retirement, build a clear financial plan that allows them to retire with confidence and actually enjoy the life they’ve worked so hard for.
Our work goes far beyond investment management. We specialize in comprehensive financial planning, which means we look at the full picture: retirement strategy, investment planning, tax planning, insurance and risk management, real estate decisions, and estate planning. Our clients are high-achievers, people who’ve worked hard, saved consistently, and now want their money to support bigger goals like freedom, flexibility, and a confident retirement.
What sets us apart is how personal and proactive we are. We don’t do cookie-cutter plans, and we don’t operate like a firm that only shows up when something breaks. We take time to understand what matters most to our clients, the goals, the fears, the habits, and the “why” behind the money. We build a plan that fits clients’ real lives, not just their balance sheets. We also focus heavily on the behavioral side of money, because most financial outcomes aren’t driven by spreadsheets alone but instead driven by decisions, consistency, and the ability to stay grounded when life gets unpredictable.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built. Charles and I created Endeavor Advisors to be the kind of firm our own families would have trusted – a firm that puts people over profits, prioritizes education and clarity, and goes above and beyond in service. We want clients to feel like they have a real advocate in their corner, and not just an advisor they hear from once a year.
And one of the biggest “proof points” of that is how we’ve grown. The majority of our growth has come through referrals from existing clients and to me, that’s the highest stamp of approval. When someone trusts us enough to introduce us to their friends, family, or colleagues, it means we are not only doing a good job financially but also doing right by people.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know about our brand, it’s this: we believe financial planning should feel empowering, not intimidating. Our job is to simplify the noise, build a strategy that actually works, and help people use money as a tool to create freedom, fulfillment, and peace of mind.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My wife and Manchester United- in that order, because I enjoy living.
Professionally, what makes me happy is being able to be part of people’s lives during the moments that actually matter. Personal finance is still one of the most emotional and awkward topics out there. People will tell you their relationship problems before they tell you how much credit card debt they have. And asking someone to walk through their finances is basically asking them to get “financially naked”, which is difficult for a lot of people. But it’s also where real change starts.
That’s why I find the work so fulfilling. When a client trusts me enough to share what they’re worried about, including retirement, debt, lifestyle decisions, family planning, or big purchases, it’s a big deal. I don’t take that lightly. I love helping people take something that feels overwhelming and turn it into something clear and actionable.
But, the best part isn’t the spreadsheets, it’s the wins. It’s watching someone buy their first or dream home, take the trip they’ve been putting off for ten years, retire earlier than they ever imagined, or finally feel like they can breathe again after mitigating their debt. Those moments never get old.
At the end of the day, I love the human side of this business. The numbers matter, but the life behind the numbers matters more, and I’m grateful I get to be part of that.
