Meet Adrianna Ko of Adrianna Ko Photography in San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianna Ko.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Adrianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my photography business in 2013 when my husband and I were newlyweds in Santa Monica. At first, I mostly did head-shots for actor friends, but it wasn’t long before I realized that what I enjoyed most was shooting families and kids. We moved to San Diego in 2015 right before our first child was born, and I discovered the niche genre of documentary family photography. Since then, I’ve become specialized in this unique style. It brings me so much joy to capture authentic storytelling moments for my own and my clients’ families.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I work from home while also managing our household and two small children, so I always wish there were more hours in the day! One of my biggest challenges, though, has been that documentary family photography is still such a new genre. Many people are unfamiliar with it, so it’s my job to demonstrate the value in this type of work.

Adrianna Ko Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m proud to offer my clients an incredibly personalized and unique experience. Unlike many other photographers in San Diego, I capture families just being themselves in their own home. During a session with me, my clients often cook together, play board games, or shoot hoops in the backyard. They don’t have to worry about getting dressed up, going somewhere, and posing. Instead, I come to them, and they can just relax and enjoy each other’s company. The resulting images celebrate the beauty in their shared everyday moments. My clients love having an artistic record of their current season of life preserved in albums and displayed on the walls in their home.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I’m a big believer in setting realistic goals to work towards and breaking large tasks down into manageable chunks. Otherwise, I would find it easy to get completely overwhelmed. As a business owner, I don’t think you ever get to a point where you feel like you’ve “arrived.” There’s always going to be more to strive for. So I define success as meeting small attainable goals along the way.
