Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Taubenfligel.
Adam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We have been in denim for almost a decade, and all over the globe, and in that time it became very apparent to us how wasteful denim is as a garment to manufacture so we decided to restructure our business as one that speaks to this unnecessary waste, while still making amazing jeans.
Has it been a smooth road?
Making your brand sustainable is not easy, or cheap, but as time goes on it becomes more accessible and affordable. Finding vendors and quality products that fall under sustainable categories is challenging. As is getting people to absorb the messaging itself but once they do the response is always genuine shock as to how wasteful denim can be, so we know we’re doing the right thing.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We make sustainable denim under our brand Triarchy, and we also have a line of vintage repurposed denim under our Triarchy Atelier label.
We are known for repurposing vintage materials and making jeans that save thousands of gallons of water per pair, all the while giving water back to people in need via our partnership with Isla Urbana, who build and install rainwater catchment systems for people without access to fresh water in and around Mexico City.
We are most proud of shining a light on the irresponsible manufacturing of denim and giving water back through our charity partner with every sale of Triarchy.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Los Angeles is like ten cities in one. If you start your day downtown for a coffee meeting, have breakfast in Silverlake, drive through Los Feliz to lunch in West Hollywood, onwards to a meeting in Venice and then dinner in Malibu, you’ll get an idea of how incredibly versatile and unique each pocket of L.A. is unto itself.
What I like least about it is that the time spent in the car to achieve the aforementioned day can be quite shocking.
