Today we’d like to introduce you to Yeniffer Behrens.
Hi Yeniffer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
OUR STORY
You have the talent. You have the dream. But what happens when the auditions stop, the callbacks disappear and you begin to wonder whether you truly belong in Hollywood?
We know that feeling because we have lived it.
Believing in yourself is the first step to becoming a working actor in Hollywood.
Before there was Shortcut2Hollywood, there were two working actors trying to build careers, raise a family, create their own opportunities and navigate one of the most competitive industries in the world.
We are Yeniffer Behrens and Mauricio Mendoza, actors, filmmakers, producers, coaches and partners in life and in this business. We learned this industry from the inside out. We met on set as actors playing opposite each other in 2010 and the rest is history.
Our journeys began separately, but together we have accumulated more than 50 years of professional experience working in film, network television, national commercials, theater, voice-over and film production.
We experienced the auditions, callbacks, bookings and incredible highs but also the rejection, uncertainty and countless moments when you have to decide whether you believe in yourself enough to keep going.
And somewhere along that journey, we realized that other actors were constantly coming to us for guidance.
How do I get started?
How do I get an agent?
What do casting directors really expect?
How do I prepare for an audition?
How do I turn acting into an actual career?
We realized that actors didn’t just need another acting class. They needed mentorship.
They needed people who understood both the craft and the business, people who had actually walked the road they were trying to travel.
So in 2019, we created Shortcut2Hollywood.
The name came from a simple idea: there is no shortcut around doing the work, but there can be a shortcut to the knowledge, to the access one needs to succeed.
We wanted to share the lessons that had taken us decades to learn.
Through Shortcut2Hollywood, we began mentoring actors at every stage, from people arriving in Hollywood with a dream and no idea where to begin, to experienced performers wanting to sharpen their craft, strengthen their auditions and take ownership of the next chapter of their careers.
Our approach goes beyond acting technique.
We teach our students how to understand the business, prepare professionally, build confidence, develop their materials, navigate auditions and, most importantly, learn how to greenlight themselves rather than waiting for someone else to give them permission to create.
Because we know this journey personally.
We are still working actors. We are still filmmakers. We do the work it takes to be a professional in this ever evolving biz, we audition, create, produce, direct and experience the changing landscape of this industry alongside the artists we mentor.
Shortcut2Hollywood was born from our careers, but its purpose has always been about something bigger:
passing the knowledge forward, being of service and paying it forward.
We want the next generation of actors to walk into this business better prepared, more confident and knowing that their dreams are possible.
Believe you’ll win and you will achieve.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. When my husband, Mauricio Mendoza, and I created Shortcut2Hollywood in 2019, our mission was to mentor actors and help them navigate the entertainment industry while learning to believe in themselves, create their own opportunities, and greenlight their own dreams.
Soon after launching, we had to navigate the pandemic, followed by the double industry strikes of 2023 and the devastating California fires. Each challenge brought uncertainty, financial pressure, and enormous disruption to our industry. We watched so many talented artists struggle to stay hopeful and keep their dreams alive.
At the same time, Mauricio and I were fighting to complete our feature film, HER CHOICES, a deeply personal story inspired by my life. We faced the realities of independent filmmaking; raising funds, creating crowdfunding campaigns, building community, and continuing forward even when we didn’t know where the next piece of financing would come from.
There were many moments when giving up might have been easier, but I kept reminding myself of the same message we share with our actors: we cannot wait for someone else to give us permission. We must believe in our stories, create our own opportunities, and greenlight ourselves.
The road has required resilience, faith, sacrifice, belief in myself and community, but every obstacle has strengthened my purpose as an actress, filmmaker, coach, and mentor. I want other artists to know that their dreams are still possible, even when the road changes or the industry comes to a standstill. Sometimes the greatest breakthroughs come when we choose to keep going and never give up!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Yeniffer Behrens is an award-winning Venezuelan-American actress, filmmaker, producer, director, creative entrepreneur, and mentor whose career spans television, film, and independent film storytelling.
As an actress, Yeniffer has appeared in acclaimed television series including Grey’s Anatomy, S.W.A.T., NCIS, Bosch, Sons of Anarchy, How to Get Away with Murder, Grace and Frankie, Young Sheldon, and General Hospital, where she recurred as Marianna Erosa. Her film credits include The Way Back, Seven Pounds, and The Specialist. She currently recurs as Consuela Santos in Angel Studios hit series “Homestead”.
Yeniffer is the founder of True Form Films, the multicultural production company she runs with her husband and producing partner, Mauricio Mendoza. Through True Form Films, they develop bold, socially relevant stories that amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate the richness of the Latino and immigrant experience. Yeniffer recently directed HER CHOICES, her feature directorial debut, a deeply personal coming-of-age crime drama inspired by her life and set in Miami in 1989. The film represents her commitment to transforming lived experience into meaningful cinema.
In 2019, Yeniffer and Mauricio co-founded Shortcut2Hollywood, a coaching and mentorship platform created to help actors strengthen their craft, understand the business, create their own opportunities, and learn how to greenlight themselves.
Of all her accomplishments, Yeniffer is most proud of raising her children, Adrian & Julianna, while building a life and career in the midst of the many challenges the entertainment industry and the world have placed before her family. Family is at the heart of everything she does and remains one of the strongest pillars of her personal and professional success.
That belief is also central to her mentorship philosophy: success is not only about booking the role, winning the award, or reaching the next professional milestone. It is about having the courage to live a full life: to fall in love, have children, take risks, pursue your dreams, and love yourself unconditionally along the way.
Whether she is acting, directing, producing, raising her family, or mentoring the next generation, Yeniffer leads with authenticity, resilience, faith, and purpose. Her mission is to create meaningful work, open doors for others, and remind artists that they do not have to sacrifice their humanity to pursue their dreams. They can build a career, nurture a family, embrace every chapter of their journey, and define success on their own terms. What sets her apart from other coaches is that she is bilingual, has worked in the casting world since 1996 and cares about the human being she is coaching or directing. She has often been called the “real deal joyful mamma on set” with the tough love you need to get you to your next level.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Los Angeles for its beautiful architecture, mountains, hiking trails, and, of course, the studios. I especially love the Burbank area, with Disney and Warner Bros. nearby.
There is something magical about being surrounded by so much creativity and history. Los Angeles truly is the City of Dreams.
What I don’t love is the traffic, the smog, the gas prices, and the enormous distances between neighborhoods. If I have one audition in Burbank and another in Santa Monica, that can easily become an all-day event!
In that respect, the self-tape era has helped tremendously. It has made auditioning more accessible and has allowed actors to spend less time driving across the city and more time preparing, creating, and living their lives.
