Life & Work with Vincent Rubio of Norwalk, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Rubio

Hi Vincent, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My introduction and love for music came at a very early age. My father has always enjoyed listening to Jazz, Blues and Classical music. My mother is a singer herself since she was a kid. She has a strong affection for Spanish music like Mariachi, Ballads, and what’s known as Corridos. I also remember plenty times through childhood that I would sneak into my brother’s room to listen to whatever cd they had in their radio at the time. Generally it was a Hip Hop album and occasionally Oldies which I know now planted a seed for the years ahead. I actually started off my music journey singing mariachi for several years of my early youth however that interest faded by the time I approached middle school. I had came across a few popular hip hop and rock cds I received from a good friend of mine. The cds were from Nas, Eminem, and Rage Against The Machine. It was the first time I owned my own cds and it completely had me hooked on rhymes moving forward. Luckily I had a handheld CD player I had received from my brother I easily listened to each one of those cds over 300 times in that first year. After high school I was fortunate to start a job at a Performing Arts Center where I was able to witness countless concerts of all genres which opened up my appreciation for music in a way I never could have imagined. With the opportunity to learn from so many great people at this theater, including many artist, I realized that I too wanted to live my life making music. After leaving the Arts Center I started out like most artist recording out of my room which then transitioned to my dads garage for many years until I was able to come across affordable studios. I now find myself surrounded by many great friends involved in music with whom I am working with on several projects. One of my good friends, DJ Merk 1200, that we unfortunately lost this year is definitely the man who helped guide me in the direction to find myself in the Underground Hip Hop scene. I am eternally grateful to him for his guidance, DJ Merk 1200 forever! I also have to mention that I also wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the help and support I received these past vital years from my good friend who I consider a big brother ,MC Bundy. Much love and gratitude to my brother and to all the artist and professionals that have given me the opportunity to grow with them on this journey in music including : Diseize84, DJ Survive, Yone OG, DJ Warlock One, MC Random, Big Herk Da Terrible, Apakalips, Chop Lui, Low2TheKey, Fuerza, Beat-Sync, JR, Flourish and Prosper, Zapata The Ghost and the whole Brownsville crew, BJ Blunt, Aspekt The Aztek and The Darkhorse Cypher movement, Randalou, Audio P and the whole 86INKA tribe, B-Side Show, Diggin Daily ,Marlon D, Ryan cash, Cash Universe Ent. and the Smoke-One Show.
Look out for my EP, “Tribal Descent” produced by Diseize84 FT. DJ Survive and my New Single I produced called “Generation X” FT. MC. Bundy dropping January of 2025!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest speed bumps with my music has been losing all of my written material at 3 different times on this journey. However that still has not been as difficult as time spent to help care for my parents. My mother is a cancer survivor who had a couple of surgeries to have her thyroid removed and has required close care from my siblings and I for many years now. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about 12 years ago and it has also been very heavy on the mind and spirit to see the progression of the PD take effect. I feel it’s important to mention that for anyone going through something similar or anything difficult that you are not alone. It is important to implement self care and awareness of one’s physical and mental states when dealing with such a difficult situation. These situations are definitely not the easiest but as my father once told me “We can lose all our money..our home..our possessions.. but those are all replaceable..if we lose our faith..thats were we’ve lost everything”.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My stage name is Vince One and I am what in Hip Hop is called an MC or Master of Ceremony, also spelled Emcee. I specifically represent what is known as Underground Hip Hop which is considered to be different from mainstream Hip Hop. The mainstream does not represent the original elements of what Hip Hop truly is supposed to be. True Hip Hop is representing the community, the culture, and unity through music.

I specialize in intricate rhymes that paint a picture from a revolutionary perspective that urges the masses to be more conscious of the power of ones thoughts and spoken words.I teach how that can change your course in life for the better which can then be passed on to those around you. I also do not shy away from aggressive metaphors displaying no mercy for any so called emcees that do not respect the art of intricate lyricism. I am known for being able to perform various cadences on show sets in both English and Spanish. I rhyme in both English and Spanish with a specific ability to translate back and forth in both languages while maintaining the rhymes on the same song. I bring a new form of rhyming that has never been used before in Hip Hop definitely and that engraves me as a Pioneer of this new original style.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Being selected for my little league baseball AllStar team for Majors Division when I was 12 years old. I was a pitcher and I had played baseball since I was 4 years old. Fun fact, I would have tried to play pro baseball if it wasn’t for a really bad football injury to my throwing arm my sophomore year in high school.
