Life & Work with Victoria Olson of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Olson.

Hi Victoria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Victoria Olson, and I’ve been a professional dancer in LA since 2018. I started dancing at the age of three and began dancing competitively when I was eleven. I grew up in Indiana – after graduating high school, I relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a professional dance career while completing my business and marketing studies online through Indiana University. This combination of artistic training and academic focus has given me both the creative and practical tools to build a sustainable career in the industry. Since moving to LA, I’ve had the opportunity to train, perform, and collaborate within a professional community and dance for artists and for brands I love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first moved to Los Angeles, it was difficult to find my niche in the industry. I spent a lot of time training, taking countless classes, and putting myself out there at auditions. The industry itself can be very demanding and competitive, and there are a lot of challenges along the way. But those challenges also make the bookings and successes even more rewarding, because you know how much hard work and persistence it took to get there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional dancer and performer specializing in commercial and stage work. Since moving to Los Angeles, I’ve had the opportunity to work with artists and brands including Mariah Carey, Selena Gomez, Thalía, Ryan Castro, Rich the Kid, Sasha Colby and brands like Sephora, Panasonic, Amazon Music, and Netflix. I also perform with Samba2Love, a professional samba entertainment company.

I would say my strongest asset is my performance quality – I like to bring the acting and performance into my dancing, with the goal of moving and connecting with those watching.

One of the proudest moments of my career was performing with Mariah Carey, which was the highest-streamed event on Netflix during the Christmas Day football game with Beyonce. However, every project I do is something I’ve worked hard for and am proud of.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I use a few different resources to help me do my best, both in dance and in life. Watching other dancers on social media is a big source of inspiration and learning for me. I also enjoy affirmation videos on YouTube to keep a positive mindset. One of my most important tools is actually my camera — I record myself and my dance classes so I can watch the footage, analyze my performance, and give myself feedback to continue improving and growing.
