Life & Work with Valerie Williams of Anaheim, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Williams

Hi Valerie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Valerie Williams, and my journey has always been deeply intertwined with music and storytelling. I began my artistic path at a young age, participating in musical theatre and theatre from the age of 4 to 18. Through these years, I developed a strong passion for both the music and the narrative aspects of theatre.

As I transitioned into college, I pursued an AA in sound engineering, which opened new doors for me in the world of music production. This led me to create my own music under the name Valiant The Pink. The name itself is inspired by The Lord of the Rings films, and much of my music draws from the world of fantasy, blending elements of storytelling and emotion that resonate with the themes of the genre.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Since a young age, I’ve struggled with bipolar disorder, which made it really hard to maintain stability in my life. There were moments when the emotional highs and lows felt overwhelming, and it was difficult to find a sense of balance. But through it all, I’ve learned that my struggles also provided me with an immense amount of musical inspiration. Music became my emotional outlet, a way for me to process and express what I was going through. Over time, therapy helped me gain more control and perspective, allowing me to become more steady in my journey. While it’s still a challenge at times, music, medication and therapy have been crucial in helping me find a sense of stability.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made in my work, particularly because I earned my AA in sound engineering. This education has allowed me to record all of my music on my own, with the exception of working with talented beat makers who provide the instrumentals. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to have the technical skills to bring my ideas to life from start to finish.

One thing I’m especially proud of is how far I’ve come in terms of storytelling within my music. Over time, I’ve been able to craft a sound that blends jazz, pop, and storytelling in a way that feels authentic to me. That balance is something I’m continuously refining and really excited about. What sets me apart, I think, is the unique fusion of genres and my focus on storytelling — creating music that not only sounds good but also resonates with people on a deeper level.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’m still working on building my network and finding the right opportunities to showcase my talent, but I’ve found that going to open mics and talent showcases has been incredibly helpful. It’s a great way to get out there, perform, and meet other musicians. I’ve met some truly wonderful people along the way, and I believe that connecting with others in the music community is one of the most important parts of this journey.

My advice would be to stay genuine, kind, and true to yourself. People are naturally drawn to authenticity, and when you approach networking with sincerity, it creates stronger and more meaningful connections. It’s all about putting yourself out there, making connections, and being open to learning from others. It’s a continuous process, but the relationships you build along the way are priceless.
