Life & Work with Valentina Kamenova of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentina Kamenova

Hi Valentina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m originally from Los Angeles, where I began acting, singing and performing as a child. Since I’m also a pianist, I developed a passion for composing original soundtrack music. At 10 years old, I was fortunate to land one of the leading roles in an Italian two-part mini-series ‘Il Generale Della Rovere,’ Since then, I’ve worked on various international projects including biblical films, Hallmark and I also wrote, directed, acted in and composed for my own short film ‘INNER.’ My love for language, acting and music led me to study Jazz Piano at the Music Conservatory Saint Louis College Of Music in Rome which helped me deepen my musical approach in my own compositions. I currently split my time between Rome, Italy and Los Angeles traveling for work and continuing my artistic career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moments of insecurity and self-doubt sometimes creep in. The biggest setbacks have been at times in my personal life. Patience and keeping a positive inner dialogue have held me through the ups and downs. An artist’s life is full of uncertainties. Dealing with certain personalities and egos in the show business are sometimes challenging. I’ve learned to trust that the right opportunities will come, even when the path isn’t always clear. All in all I love to be creative and am grateful to be in this business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actress, singer, pianist and composer for soundtrack. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, whether through the emotions conveyed in a performance or the music that accompanies a scene. As an actress and composer, I tend to lean more toward dramatic works as I find it more intense, more interesting, but I’ve done comedy too. One of the projects I’m most proud is my own short film INNER which I wrote, directed, acted in and composed the soundtrack. I put my heart and soul into it. It was a special feeling to see my vision come alive on the screen and getting such a positive reaction from the public really moved me. What sets me apart from others, I would say is my versatility and tenacity. Also being a woman composer I feel sets me apart because I personally haven’t seen many.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is being happy and grateful for the little things, and family. My mother and I are very close, she raised me a single mother in a loving, creative environment. As she is also in the entertainment industry, we also do many projects together. Thanks to her I am where I am now. Also being creative is really cleansing. I’m happiest when I’m creating.
