Life & Work with Troy Spiropoulos of Rancho Palos Verdes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Spiropoulos.

Hi Troy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Troy Spiropoulos and I am a rock musician who started a rock band here in Los Angeles that has been active for 20 years called Slow Burning Car.
We have toured nationally and internationally, have self released six albums (currently working on our seventh), and have licensed music for television (VH1 Classic top 100 child actors) and independent film (Crash Artist – Cinebyte Productions 2008).
I minored in Music (majored in World History) at CSU Dominguez Hills graduating in 2003.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a constant balancing act between doing what I loved with music over the years and doing what I had to do to earn a living.
I was raised in the fast food business and for 27 years operated a restaurant called “Original Tommy’s Burgers” in Wilmington, California before leasing out the business in 2023.
The restaurant financed (and continues to finance) the activities of the band so in that regard it is a beneficial to the longevity of Slow Burning Car.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Slow Burning Car is a band that combines the grunge sound of the early 90’s, the heavy metal sound of the early 80’s, and the garage rock sound of the late 60’s…in other words a reflection of my record collection.
I don’t believe there is another band in Los Angeles right now that can weave these influences/elements as seamlessly as we do.
If you log onto our website, reviews of all our albums can be found. In these reviews it is very gratifying to hear multiple critics critique the different albums we have released and confirm our conviction to this ethos and approach to our sound.
