Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Karvala.

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started practicing makeup on myself when I was around 15 years old. I used to watch makeup tutorials on YouTube all the time & felt inspired to try it out. Almost every night when I would get home from school I would practice, it became an escape for me. I loved doing colorful looks & thinking outside the box. I realized makeup was more than just something used to make people feel prettier, it was a form of art. I was very quiet growing up & still am very much an introvert but I’m extremely grateful that I’m able to use makeup to express myself & share my art / ideas with others. My love for makeup has only grown more over the years, after graduating high school I decided I wanted to pursue makeup as a career & go to school for it. Pushing myself to become a makeup artist & pursue my dreams has been the best decision I’ve made & helped me overcome so many of my fears.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think one of my biggest struggles has been low self esteem & not believing in myself. I often still have moments of self doubt or get imposter syndrome. Even though I know I’m good at what I do, I still wonder if I’m good enough or deserve to be where I’m at.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in bold, avant-garde makeup looks. I love to use a lot of color & different shapes that maybe you wouldn’t think to use. My art is often inspired by theatre makeup, nature, paintings, music, clothing, etc. I’m most proud of myself for sticking to my art style even when people might’ve not understood what I was trying to convey.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my family and friends & making art makes me happy. Both bring me an immense amount of joy, I’m blessed with an incredible amount of love & support from my loved ones. I’m grateful to be able to make art that I love & share it with others.
