Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen & Giselle Langley.
Hi Stephen & Giselle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Giselle and I met back in December 2018 and immediately hit the ground running with road trips, hikes, travel, and adventure. We continued to chase our dreams and explore as much of the world as possible while working our full-time 9–5 jobs until 2020 when the world shut down. In 2020, we bought our first camera and started to learn how to take our own photos and videos off YouTube. Once lockdown was over, we started to post our photos and videos on social media in hopes to inspire other people that lived in California to get out and go for a hike or a road trip rather than just staying at home all the time. This started to gain traction very quickly, to the point that we were making more income from The Lovers Passport than our real jobs. Eventually, we went all in on our business and have now grown our company to a team of 8 people from just sharing our photos and videos on our travels around the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge in our space is imposter syndrome. Today, we have 1.4 million followers across platforms, and we often get worried that no one will want to see our content or that it is not good enough. This has been our biggest struggle from the beginning up until now. One quote that we heard that changed the game for us was, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start in order to be great.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for being professional travel content creators. Both of us specialize in outdoor adventure travel photography and videography for other people that are looking to start traveling more. Our audience knows us for the big landscape small people photos with us wearing our red and yellow jackets. We are the most proud of our content and photos because we take all our creative photos with just 1 camera and a tripod.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Our old mentor, @dani_the_explorer, was a huge advocate for us in the beginning and taught us so much at the beginning of our career, and today, our new mentor, James Wedmore, has taught us how to build systems to scale and grow our business.
