Shelby, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From the moment I discovered the beauty industry, I was hooked. I started with makeup and soon wanted more, so I dived into the world of hair. Now, I have a unique blend of skills that allows me to transform anyone who sits in my chair. Recently, my best friend and I opened Golden Hour Hair Lounge, a stylish haven by the beach where we make women feel gorgeous and confident every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been quite the journey, filled with ups and downs! From carving out my space in a competitive industry to balancing the demands of running a business with staying creatively inspired, there have been numerous challenges. Dealing with the unexpected blow of events like the COVID-19 pandemic, which temporarily shut down our industry, was a pivotal moment. But through it all, I’ve learned to adapt, grow, and face challenges head-on. Each obstacle has been a lesson, strengthening my resilience and fueling my determination to succeed.

I specialize in delivering personalized color services tailored to each client’s individual style and preferences, focusing on creating luxurious, lived-in hair looks for blondes, brondes, and brunettes. I strive to achieve stunning results that enhance my clients’ natural beauty.

An aspect of my work that brings me particular pride is my dedication to fashion colors. These projects have earned recognition in hair shows, been featured on various platforms, and led to collaborations with notable figures like UFC fighter Suga Sean O’Malley.

What makes me stand out is that I’m always up for pushing creative boundaries while making sure every detail is just right. I take real pride in delivering top-notch work and never taking shortcuts — offering clients a truly unique and personalized experience that exceeds their expectations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has definitely had its moments in my life and business journey! There have been those times when everything just seemed to fall into place perfectly, like stumbling upon exciting opportunities or meeting the right people at the right time. On the flip side, there have been those moments when things didn’t quite go as planned, and I found myself facing unexpected challenges or setbacks. But through it all, I’ve learned to roll with the punches, stay positive, and keep pushing forward. After all, they say luck favors the bold, right?
