Life & Work with Shambhavi Raj

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shambhavi Raj.

Hi Shambhavi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have grown up in a family where music played a huge part in our everyday lives and I feel that led to my inclination towards music and to the desire to produce music as well. In fact, I have been singing since when I was about two years old and it will always remain a big part of me. When I reflect about how I got to where I am today, I think all those slips, sleepless nights of working on my music and coming up with melodies at wee hours of the day have helped me get here. I know there are a lot of more of those days and nights to come but I will say that I am stoked for them all.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started making music at a very young age so yes, over the years, I have had quite a few hurdles to deal with. Facets of life like academics and work have always made it a little tricky to balance music with. As a matter of fact, like every other creative mind, I have also dealt with writer’s block which was never a concept for me before I actually went through it. Interestingly enough, all these experiences have made me understand that if you genuinely want something, no matter what happens, you will always figure it out!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To begin with, I am an artist who sings and produces music. I have learnt vocal music and production for more than half my life and I have officially been producing music for the past six years. Most of my music is pop-influenced but my main focus has always been on how to add different elements of music used globally to mine. Over the years, I have only become more obsessed with using instruments from the string family so currently, I have set my heart on making it my signature in every track. Truly speaking, I will say that I am proud of all the work I have put into making every single track and also, of who I have become as I do believe that I have only grown through this entire process and years of work.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Ah, there is so much to like and love here but if I had to mention one best thing about our city, I would say the fact that it has a little bit of everything makes it very special. From diversity to nightlife, you get everything in between here. However, I do have to say that the least appealing thing is the traffic; right now, I can only hope for it to get better in the coming years!
