Today we’d like to introduce you to Pixie Dot.
Hi Pixie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Los Angeles Multidisciplinary Drag Artist & costume designer. I studied Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona & have always been interested in creating beautiful things. I started drag during the COVID lockdown after I was let go from my day job and have pursued drag full time as well as sewing & making costumes. I started my own business called “Studio.jpg” that combines all of my passions and loves for design.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a bumpy road leaving my career to pursue my art and start a business. I have been able to accomplish a lot of amazing things in such a short time and the support and warmth I receive from the community is amazing. I have been pursuing my own art for almost 5 years. I have produced my own drag shows and have been able to sustain myself as a full time drag performer as well. Choosing to focus on my sobriety for +2 years has also helped me stay focus and expand my business and art form.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A lot of my influence come from my love for architecture and creating structural pieces with my garments. I love to create pieces that come together like a building does, with a foundation, detailing, & dramatic volumes. I am most proud that one of my garments has been showcased on the Emmy award winning show Rupauls Drag Race as well as Dragula. Seeing other drag artist wear my costumes and be told that my work is recognizable is truly a compliment. What sets me apart is that I have a distinct branding with my garments and with my own drag.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my authenticity. I want to always be creating things that I %100 like and standby. I want everything that I create to be a love letter of all of my interests, childhood memories, & inspirations. Growing up and being ashamed of being Latino, undocumented, and queer has given me the drive to be more proud then ever and live in my truth.
