Life & Work with NAOMI OLSON of The Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to NAOMI OLSON.

NAOMI, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My path has never been linear, but it’s always been creative. I started off making art and apprenticing as a woodworker, then spent my early twenties working in a café, making experimental films and art with friends. That DIY spirit carried me across the globe — traveling, living in Hawaii, and diving into the film industry where I worked in the art department and on camera crews.

I split time between Hawaii and LA for years, eventually studying cinematography at the Global Cinematography Institute under legends like Yuri Neyman and Vilmos Zsigmond. (That school no longer exists, but the impact lives on.) Along the way, I also began exploring the healing arts, diving into wellness and holistic therapies, which became a deep part of my life and took me to France then NYC.

Eventually, the hustle of the New York rat race pushed me back to Hawaii — seeking balance and reconnection. But life threw me a curveball. I got seriously ill, moved to Florida to stabilize, and then fell sick again. After a long hospital stay and emergency colorectal surgery, I was given a second chance. I had to relearn how to walk. Each step on the beach became part of my healing ritual. Creativity came back. So did clarity.

That’s when I discovered Bitcoin — and something clicked. It was about sovereignty, values, and building a better system. I made the decision to truly live aligned with what I care about: nature, health, freedom, and art.

I moved to Mexico, found a slower rhythm by the sea, and started creating again. That’s where BTC Aloha was born — a Bitcoin-themed beachwear brand inspired by surf, sovereignty, and sun. It’s more than a clothing line; it’s part of a larger vision to live simply, stay curious, and build culture rooted in beauty and meaning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Living with an ileostomy presents daily physical and emotional challenges — from managing unpredictability to maintaining confidence in social and professional settings. Honestly, some of the harder battles have been internal: confronting my own limited thinking, reprogramming the survival-based narratives I grew up with, and pushing back against the world’s default setting of negativity and fear. I never had formal training in money or business, so entering those realms has meant learning everything from scratch — and doing it while unlearning shame and scarcity. It’s been humbling, but also empowering, because I now get to shape a life rooted in personal sovereignty, creativity, and belief in something better.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work reflects a devotion to creativity, healing, and freedom. As a photographer, I’m drawn to natural light, emotional truth, and quiet moments that speak volumes. I’ve worked across genres — from editorial and portraiture to documentary and fine art — always with an intuitive, honest lens. Through Sea is Medicine, I create collage-based artwork and mixed media pieces that explore themes of resilience, nature, personal transformation, and Seaspiration! Many of these works are informed by my own journey through illness, recovery, and rediscovery. With BTC Aloha, I bring my love of art, storytelling, and sovereignty into wearable form — designing Bitcoin-inspired aloha shirts and prints that celebrate freedom, decentralization, and tropical vibes. Across all of these expressions, my work is grounded in beauty, boldness, and a deep belief in personal and collective liberation

What matters most to you?
Now that I’m finally realizing my dreams, I feel a deep responsibility to help the next generation do the same — and do it sooner. I want young people to know they don’t have to wait until life breaks them open to start living with purpose. Bitcoin is a big part of that vision for me — it offers a way out of the debt traps and mental cages so many of us grew up in. I care about freedom, wellness, and beauty — not as luxuries, but as essentials. Preserving handmade arts, reconnecting with nature, and building systems that empower rather than extract — that’s what inspires my work and my life.
