Life & Work with Mortez of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mortez.

Hi Mortez , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Mortez is a glorious love story about two musicians finding each other in the wild City of Angels. A woman who had survived horrific events and a man losing his life to bad habits came together to save each other. Both of them gave up everything to start a new life in order to love each other honestly and purely. Music was a monster that Rachele would eventually face (once again) as Brett began to compose on the piano. The sounds of Mortez would materialize without them even knowing it.

Brett Daniels and Rachele Royale come together as a dynamic, dramatic duo, bringing a symphonic rock dream to life. Rachele comes from the pop world building her brand as a solo recording artist. Her debut album was produced by rock legend Mutt Lange- her songs have been featured on MTV, CMT, Hulu, SiriusXM and beyond. Brett has played on some of the biggest stages as a session player with Hollywood local legends. As a composer, Brett’s end game is to tour with a full orchestra with Mortez.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The music industry is hard for any musician weather it be a solo artist or a band. In our case, building a band and facing our fears together has been a dream come true. The healing journey is also another rough road for most of us humans in life. Rachele struggles with past trauma from family, music etc. Rachele: “Sometimes singing will bring the pain and the tears to the surface. Writing lyrics from the soul can also invoke the tears. My goal is to be able to sing without crying !”. Brett: “Writing songs and being in the “hybernation” phase of our band definitely has me missing the stage ! It’s worth every second though because my biggest dream was to create symphonic rock that I can pair with a full orchestra. The end game for me is Wembley Stadium with a choir and orchestra !”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are camp. We are theater. We are Drama !! Mortez aims to give our Mortezian witch coven the show of the century. We want to build a family (coven) of amazing, creative fans who love our music just as much as we do. Brett- “I believe, what truly sets us apart, is the incorporation of orchestral elements and metal sensibilities. While following straight ahead pop formulas…. and of course our passion and drive.” Rachele- “I can’t wait for our band to be known for our live show. The fans showing up dressed as witches and chanting every, single. lyric 🙂 Manifesting magic always.”

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Mortez was born from the movie “The Addams Family” which was shot right here in the heart of Los Angeles. The name “Mortez” is an amalgamation of Morticia & Gomez. So naturally, our band is blood brothers with LA 😉 Rachele- “It has taken me years to find my favorite crystal/sage/magic shops. The ones I adore are hard to beat ! In addition, I love the ruthless fight from the diehard artists out here who refuse to give up. They give me the motivation to keep going.” Brett- “Being raised in Reno and in the forest, I can’t praise this place on its natural appeal. But, it definitely makes up for it with it’s vast and ever flowing music scene. Tons of places to go, people to meet, Bands to see, and inspiration to be had.”
