Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sosa.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for music began early, shaped by a family that exposed me to a wide range of sounds and cultures. My uncles were breakdancers and pop lockers, my mom played R&B and ’90s classics, my step dad that loves rock and roll and my aunt introduced me to darker, alternative music. That mix gave me a diverse musical foundation and a deep appreciation for different styles from a young age.
Growing up, music was always at the center of who I was. I remember singing/rapping on the way to school, and while other kids were focused on toys, I was asking for albums and paying attention to style and expression. As a teenager, I became part of a dance group and had the opportunity to work with a DJ from ages 16 to 18. I was one of his dance performers, and that experience is what really introduced me to DJing and the culture behind it. Shoutout to Mr. Webster, owner of Sound Spectrum, for keeping me off the streets and being a positive influence in my life.
Eventually, life shifted into survival mode. When I moved to Los Angeles about seven years ago, I faced unexpected challenges and had to make difficult sacrifices—including selling my DJ equipment just to stay afloat. A family member who was supposed to make that move with me backed out at the last minute, leaving me to navigate everything on my own.
For a while, music took a back seat. But recently, I found my way back to it. My fiancé played a huge role in that. She reminding me of who I am at my core and encouraging me to pursue what truly makes me happy. She even surprised me with a DJ controller, which reignited that passion instantly.
Now, I’m stepping back into music with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude. Everything I’ve been through has shaped my perspective, my sound, and my story. And this is only the beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people pursuing something creative, there were times when survival had to come first. When I moved to Los Angeles, I faced financial pressure almost immediately and had to make tough decisions, including selling my DJ equipment just to stay afloat. That was one of the hardest moments for me because it felt like I was letting go of a part of who I was.
I also didn’t have the support system I expected at the time. A family member who was supposed to make that move with me backed out last minute, and I had to figure everything out on my own. That experience forced me to grow up quickly and adapt, but it also meant putting my passion for music on hold.
At the same time, I’m a father, so I’ve had to learn how to balance chasing my dreams while being present and providing for my son. That responsibility changes everything (it pushes you) but it also makes the journey more meaningful.
There were also internal challenges like self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and questioning whether I was really meant to pursue this path. Coming back to music after years away wasn’t easy, especially seeing how much the industry had evolved.
But in the end, those challenges shaped me. They built resilience, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for where I’m at today. I don’t take any of this for granted anymore and that’s what drives me forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a DJ and creative operating under the name Sosa Remix. I focus on blending multiple genres to create high-energy, feel-good experiences that connect with different audiences. My style isn’t limited to one lane. I mix everything from hip-hop, R&B, and reggaeton to house, Latin house, and throwback classics, often incorporating my own edits and mashups.
What sets me apart is my ability to read a crowd and create moments that feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. I grew up influenced by a wide range of music, so my sets reflect that versatility. Whether it’s a live event, a mix, or content online, my goal is always the same: to make people feel something and bring energy that people remember.
Right now, I’m focused on building my brand, performing at events, and creating consistent content through live mixes and social platforms. This is just the beginning of what I’m building.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Stay consistent and be patient with yourself. It’s easy to compare your journey to others, but everyone moves at their own pace, focus on building your own sound and identity.
I also wish I started sharing my journey sooner. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. JUST DO IT!
And most importantly, protect your passion. Life will get busy, but don’t lose what makes you feel alive. Even small steps forward still count.
