Today we’d like to introduce you to Micky Kurz
Hi Micky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Micky Kurz’s journey into the world of dance began at the young age of 6, when he joined a dance class in his hometown, Stuttgart, Germany. While other kids moved on, Micky’s passion for dance only grew stronger. His early training took place at the NewYorkCityDanceSchool in Stuttgart, and by the age of 14, he was already attending international workshops led by renowned choreographers. His drive to improve and immerse himself in the dance scene set him apart from others his age, and his name started circulating among established dancers and choreographers. This dedication led him to his first significant opportunity—teaching his own class at L.U. Dance, a well-known dance school in Germany.
By 19, after finishing high school and completing his civil service, Micky had to make a choice between university or pursuing dance full-time. His passion for dance won, and soon after, he landed his first professional gig with Adidas, performing in a dance-based fashion show. This opened doors for Micky in the European dance scene, where he performed in high-profile shows like “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS) and “X-Factor.” He also worked with major brands and established himself as a model walking in fashion weeks all over Europe, further solidifying his place as a professional dancer and model in Europe.
But his ambitions didn’t stop there. After briefly visiting Los Angeles at 18, Micky realized that L.A. was the true epicenter of the dance world. He had always dreamed of being a dancer for his favorite artists he had seen on the TV screen while watching MTV. He knew he had to move there to take his career to the next level. Once in Los Angeles, the transition was tough. The competition was fierce, and he had to start from scratch, attending auditions where he was one of hundreds of dancers vying for a spot. However, Micky’s perseverance and talent helped him stand out.
One of his early breakthroughs in L.A. was landing a prestigious spot as a dancer for Christina Aguilera, performing at the NBA All-Star Game in Madison Square Garden, New York City. This marked a significant moment in his career, followed by another major performance at the Mawazine Festival in Morocco with Christina Aguilera, in front of over 250,000 people. Micky’s portfolio quickly expanded to include performances in music videos and tours for artists like Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez, The Jonas Brothers, Maluma, Hailee Steinfeld, Little Mix, Erika Jayne, Betty Who and many more. His work with these prominent names, coupled with his strong network in the dance world, established him as a well-known figure in the industry.
Micky’s career wasn’t just about being in front of the camera. He also found mentorship with leading choreographers like Marvin A. Smith, a top European choreographer, and other US based creatives. These collaborations allowed Micky to further develop his skills in choreography and creative direction. Working behind the scenes became just as rewarding for him as performing, and Micky began to see his future in choreography and creative direction.
Now based in Los Angeles, Micky’s career continues to grow. He has worked as a guest star choreographer, movement and runway coach for Germany’s Next Topmodel with Heidi Klum, of which a major portion of the production s being filmed every year in LA and with international brands like Snipes and musical artist such as Zoe Wees etc., his focus is shifting more toward creative direction and choreography. While dance is still at the heart of what he does, he sees his future evolving in new, creative ways. With his roots in Germany and a successful career in L.A., Micky embodies the determination and hard work needed to make it in the competitive world of professional dance. His story is one of passion, persistence, and continual growth in the pursuit of artistic excellence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Transitioning into the professional dance world was far from easy, and there were plenty of challenges along the way. One of the biggest obstacles early on was making the leap from being a dancer in Germany to trying to break into the industry in Los Angeles, which is a much bigger, more competitive scene. In Europe, I had already built a name for myself. I was teaching classes and performing on big stages like “DSDS” and working with brands like Adidas. But when I moved to L.A., I had to start all over again. You go from being recognized in your home country to attending auditions with hundreds of equally talented dancers, all fighting for the same few spots.
The competition was definitely tough. There were times when I would go to multiple auditions a week and not get booked. There’s a mental challenge in that too—staying motivated, keeping your self-confidence up, and not letting the rejection get to you. L.A. is an intimidating place, and there’s no guarantee that your talent alone will land you a job. It’s about timing, connections, and being in the right place at the right time. Building those relationships and constantly proving yourself over and over again was challenging.
Another challenge was the physical and mental demands of the industry. Being a dancer, especially when you’re auditioning non-stop, means you have to be in top physical shape all the time. It’s not just about being a good dancer—you have to have the stamina and the mental focus to keep pushing even when things aren’t going your way. I also had to adjust to the pace of the industry in L.A., where you can go from having no work to suddenly being on set for hours or traveling for a tour without much downtime.
One of the more personal challenges was being away from home, from family and friends. Moving to a new country for your dream is exciting, but it can also be lonely at times, especially in the beginning when you’re not established yet. But ultimately, these challenges made me stronger and more focused. It wasn’t always easy, but those moments of struggle are what push you to grow. You learn resilience, and you develop a thick skin that’s necessary in this industry. It’s all part of the process of building a career.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve had a multifaceted career so far, beginning as a dancer. For the first half of my journey, I focused heavily on performing, working with a variety of artists across TV, stages, and major live performances. About three or four years ago, I transitioned into choreography and creative direction, which has now become a big part of what I do.
I’m known for blending elements of dance, runway, and visual storytelling to create unique, fashion-forward concepts. Whether it’s choreography for music videos, fashion shows, or directing movement on set, I love to bring my vision to life. I’m proud of the versatility I bring to the table—moving fluidly between roles while always pushing creative boundaries and challenging myself to evolve. What sets me apart is my ability to combine my performance background with a sharp eye for movement and detail, which has helped me stand out in this transition from dancer to creative director and choreographer. My most recent work is seen on TV as a guest start choreographer and runway/movement coach for the TV show “Germany’s Next Topmodel” with Heidi Klum. This has been my 4th year working on the show.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Team work is of the utmost importance to me and I believe that collaboration is key to creating the best work possible. I am always seeking to inspire and be inspired, and I am constantly looking for ways to grow and improve. I thrive in the fast-paced world of the arts and entertainment industry and enjoy tackling challenges and finding solutions.
I am deeply dedicated to my work and always seeking new opportunities to push creative boundaries and explore new ideas. I am passionate about collaborating with brands, artists, and singers to bring their vision to life and create something truly special. My unique perspective and skills allow me to offer a fresh approach to every project, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
