Life & Work with Micah Martin of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Martin

Hi Micah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I owe my musical journey to my grandma for buying me a blue First Act Guitar at nine years old one Christmas morning. Having that guitar led to a chain of events that got me involved in the music scene in Iowa. I eventually started a band where I would sing with full-blown T-Pain style autotune and I wrote pop punk songs with my best friends. Years later, this would lead into touring the country with my band The Zealots. We would open up for acts like: Of Mice & Men, Saving Abel, Attila, Buckcherry, We Came As Romans, Theory Of A Deadman, I See Stars, & many more! By 2016, I was playing Weekend Warrior shows all over the Midwest every weekend just trying to make a name for myself. Around that year, I was introduced into doing vocals for electronic artists & that’s when I started to notice some serious traction. It almost felt like it was overnight when I got my first million plays on YouTube, then I got my first million plays on Spotify! Noticing all of this momentum, I decided to put all of my attention into writing Rock-style vocals over electronic music. This was a way for me to stay true to my rock roots and still create music that I love to listen to. By 2020 Covid completely took away playing live shows. I used that time to lock in and write some of my greatest songs to date. Currently I have over 400M plays across all streaming platforms & my music has been in some of the biggest video games in the world like Rocket League and Fortnite. I’ve had the chance to collaborate with artists like Zomboy, RIOT, PhaseOne, NITTI, ARMNHMR, Nurko, and more! I feel blessed to be able to call some of the people I looked up to in this industry my friends & work directly with them on creating music. As I enter my 10th year in the music industry in 2025, I’m beyond excited to launch my solo project under ‘Micah Martin’ in the rock and metal scene. After years of collaborations in the EDM and bass world, this year marks the beginning of releasing my own solo songs, working with incredible producers like Kevin Thrasher, Mike Gonek, REDD, and more. I can’t wait to share this new chapter with everyone!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road that led me to where I am today was never smooth, but that’s what makes this journey so interesting! Of course, one of the downsides of the music industry is that sometimes “bigger” artists/labels/companies try to take advantage of younger emerging artists by never paying royalties, stealing your music ideas or pressuring you into signing terrible deals for example. These types of situations can be extremely disheartening & I have even seen people quit the music industry because of it. Though I try not to dwell on these things because they can really mess with mental health. The way I approach these situations now, is learning from my mistakes in the past and not allowing them to happen again. It also helps to have good management too! There were times, especially on the road, where I didn’t even know if we were going to eat that day or have enough money to fill the gas tank to make it to the next stop! With that being said, I always kept going and found a way to overcome any obstacles on my path. No matter how rough or smooth the road to success is, I’m driving on it every damn day!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer, songwriter, & performer! I specialize in writing heavy rock influenced songs. After being in rock bands since high school, I have developed a certain sound that really gravitates with the electronic dance scene. Some of my crossover vocals in EDM have been anthems for festivals, title screen songs for Rocket League, placed in Radio Yonder on Fortnite, in mobile games like Arknights & Geometry Dash. I guess you can say I specialize in creating fun, high-energy music that people love to add to their games! I love crafting melodies and lyrics that bring energy and emotion to a song, whether it’s for a festival crowd or a gaming experience. My goal is always to create something that resonates and sticks with people long after they’ve heard it.

I am known for my aggressively powerful vocals over heavy bass music. People can hear my voice on a track and instantly recognize it! I’m proud to have written for major artists like Trevor Daniel, Don Diablo, Imanbek, and Travis Barker, as well as having multiple songs featured in some of the biggest video games in the world, like Rocket League and Fortnite.

Performing live is another huge part of what I do. I’ve had the honor of singing my songs at legendary venues and festivals like The Hollywood Palladium, Red Rocks, EDC Vegas & Orlando, Spring Awakening, Lost Lands, and The Gorge Amphitheatre.

I believe what sets me apart from other artists is my versatility… I’m not just a singer, but also a songwriter, producer, performer, and, most recently, a DJ. My stage presence is something I take pride in; whether I’m performing for five or 50,000 people, I bring the same energy every time. Entertaining a crowd, engaging with the fans and creating an unforgettable experience is what I live for!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was extremely extroverted! I would always go up to people and try to make friends everywhere I went. I’d say I was always doing something funny, trying to make people laugh. I feel like I was born to entertain the masses – and music gave me a platform to do so! From a young age (whether it was singing, playing instruments, or just putting on a show for family and friends) I was always drawn to the energy of performing in front of an audience. That love has only grown over time & I hope it continues to grow until I’m old and gray!
