Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Deciccio.

Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Defined Entertainment Design Inc. ( Defined AV ) was incorporated in 2003. What began in a garage as a small two man sole proprietorship built on technical skill and word-of-mouth referrals steadily grew into a brick-and-mortar custom low voltage company serving high-end residential and commercial clients.

Over the years, the company has navigated economic downturns, industry shifts, and the operational realities of running a licensed contracting business in California. In 2020, I bought out my former partner and assumed full ownership. That transition marked a pivotal moment. With a clear vision and a strengthened team, the company refined its processes, expanded its service capabilities, and positioned itself for long-term growth.

Today, Defined AV is known not only for technical excellence in residential and commercial low-voltage contracting, smart automation, and integrated A/V systems, but for its reliability and commitment to long-term client relationships.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a contracting business in California presents significant challenges. The state’s licensing requirements, insurance mandates, compliance standards, and permitting processes demand constant oversight, which is very tough to keep up with. Maintaining full compliance while staying competitive requires discipline and operational efficiency.

The company also weathered economic uncertainty, like COVID-19. Like many small businesses, there were slower periods. What allowed us to remain stable was our strong client base and reputation for dependable service. Long-standing customers continued to trust our company during the slower cycles, which provided us with stability when others in the industry failed.

Consistency, conservative growth, and a focus on the white glove service which we still offer today allowed Defined AV to endure when many competitors did not.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Defined AV is a licensed, bonded and insured low-voltage contractor specializing in: custom home theater design, service and installation, whole-home automation and smart control systems, distributed audio and video systems, network infrastructure and Wi-Fi optimization, security and surveillance systems, and Commercial AV solutions for offices, senior centers, hospitality, and retail.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The low-voltage and integrated technology industry is positioned for strong growth over the next 5–10 years, with global projections exceeding $270 billion and many segments expanding at 5–12% annually.

This growth is being driven by smart home adoption, increased urban development, renewable energy integration, and the demand for reliable network infrastructure in both residential and commercial spaces. What was once considered high-end is quickly becoming standard. As systems become more sophisticated and interconnected, the need for experienced, licensed professionals will continue to rise.

We see significant opportunity ahead for Defined AV as innovation accelerates and clients increasingly prioritize professionally designed, fully supported technology environments. Our focus will remain on staying ahead of emerging platforms, strengthening our service model, and delivering scalable systems that grow with our clients’ needs.
