Life & Work with Jordanna Younger of Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordanna Younger

Hi Jordanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Two years ago, I moved to the Valley with my son, Jaden and quickly realized something was missing here a cozy, trendy space like the ones I loved in West Hollywood. Over the hill, there were spots where friends gathered, people worked, and communities connected over great coffee. I wanted to bring that vibe to Sherman Oaks, a place that wasn’t just about coffee but about connection and comfort.

Inspired by my own passion for coffee and its ability to bring people together, I set out on this journey to create Valley Grounds! From the moment I signed the lease, it’s been a labor of love designing a space that feels like home, making a menu that reflects both quality and creativity, and building a team that shares the vision I have.

What started as an idea is now a reality a year later. It’s a place where friends can meet, people can work or read, and the community can come together over coffee. Watching Valley Grounds grow over just a few months has been incredible, and I’m so proud to see it become a piece of the Valley that so many people call their own and are loving.

This is just the beginning, and I’m excited for what’s to come.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. Building Valley Grounds has been one of the most challenging journeys of my life. There were countless obstacles along the way so many battles with city regulations, permits, and unexpected setbacks that felt overwhelming. There were days when I genuinely questioned if I could keep going. Some nights, I would lay awake wondering if this dream would ever become a reality.
But every time I thought about giving up, I reminded myself why I started to create something special for the Valley, for my son Jaden to see his mom push through challenges and for the community I envisioned gathering in this space.

Those struggles only made the success of Valley Grounds even sweeter. Each cup of coffee served, every new face walking through the door, and the growing support from the community remind me how they have been waiting so long for us to open and they can’t wait so to me every battle was worth it. It’s a reminder that no dream comes easy, but perseverance truly pays off.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Valley Grounds Coffee, we are dedicated to creating a welcoming space in Sherman Oaks where community and coffee meet. Our specialty lies in crafting exceptional coffee experiences, with carefully sourced beans.

What sets us apart is our commitment to fostering a cozy and trendy environment reminiscent of West Hollywood’s vibrant café culture. Our space is designed for friends to meet, work, read, or simply enjoy great coffee. We take pride in our attention to detail, from the quality of our beverages to the ambiance of our shop. Our recent holiday transformation, for instance, added a festive touch that delighted our patrons.

We are most proud of the community we’ve built and the connections we’ve fostered since opening our doors. Our grand opening event was a testament to this, bringing together locals for a day filled with coffee, fun, and amazing prizes.

Our dedication to quality, community, and creating a unique inviting atmosphere distinguishes Valley Grounds Coffee as a cherished destination in the Valley.

What makes you happy?
My greatest happiness comes from two sources: my son, Jaden, and Valley Grounds Coffee. Jaden is my pride and joy, bringing immense happiness into my life and standing as my number one supporter. Inspired by him, we’ve created and will be introducing a special kids’ menu at Valley Grounds, catering specifically to our younger guests. Additionally, seeing new faces each day and welcoming returning customers who truly appreciate the space I’ve created fills me with joy. Their support and love for Valley Grounds Coffee make all the hard work worthwhile.
