Life & Work with Jei-Rynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jei-Rynn.

Hi Jei-Rynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been writing music since I picked up a guitar when I was 12. I started working on the songs for this project [Jei-Rynn] during the pandemic. I was inspired by all the chaos of that time, both the personal and the societal. We live in strange times and I’ve always felt like a stranger. I think I started to find a way to express these things correctly in the songs I’ve released thus far for the project and with the ones I’ve worked on since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The artist’s road has never been easy. At least not for me. You have to have the courage to say something that came from your own mind as an individual, and I think that can scare people. And then you have to say something that means something to people, that truly entertains them. It’s a constant struggle and I doubt it ever really ends.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an alternative singer-songwriter. I sing, play guitar and piano. Currently, I’m most proud of my debut EP, overreacting, which dropped in October of 2022. My songs are honest, satirical, sometimes dark. I tend to write about the things that keep me up at night or the ones that make me not want to wake up.

I’m not sure exactly what sets my art apart from others. It’s all derivative, but I’ve always been defined as a “weirdo” in some way by those around me. My art is a reflection of myself, so you can do the math.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck plays such a large role in music and in the entertainment industry in general. You never know who you might meet at a performance, online, etc. I don’t think any artist can particularly blame bad luck, but I’ve been fortunate enough to meet different people to work with in the studio or in music videos at random.
