Life & Work with Jake O’Flaherty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake O’Flaherty.

Hi Jake, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my acting career in 1995, and through the years, I have expanded into becoming an acting coach and a writer. I started by helping out my fellow actors who could not afford a coach, and then they booked the roles…so word spread that I was an option for coaching and I started my side business. I enjoy breaking down the scripts and creating unique characters for my own auditions and sharing my insight with other actors as well. We all win when working together, and I learn so much from my clients too. After a few years, I was blessed to be the acting coach to more working actors and even a few celebrities like Ken Jeong. It’s something I look forward to doing every day, and I can give back to the entertainment community that has supported my career for 26 years!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The entertainment industry is full of ebbs and flows, highs and lows….so I do my best to stay busy and just move forward with the next project. I audition, coach actors, work at a commercial talent agency, teach at various acting schools all over LA, and just finished writing a potential TV series. On top of all that, I just graduated with my MFA in TV/Film/Screenwriting…not even Covid-19 could hold me back from learning something new and accomplishing more in my career. In Hollywood, if you stop, everything stops.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been fortunate to be working as an actor since 1995, and have booked over 200 commercials, voiceover jobs, TV shows, and films. I wanted to learn how to write so I went back to school in May of 2020, during Covid when everything shut down and graduated with my MFA in TV/Film/Screenwriting this past August. Now I’m shopping around a new TV series called Failure to Parent and learning the business side of Hollywood while working at Dangerfield Talent commercial agency, juggling my own acting auditions and coaching other actors. I’m proud to have the opportunity to coach actors and teach at various acting schools around LA. I learn so much from all my students and clients.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
