Life & Work with Jade Vanessa of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Vanessa

Hi Jade, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My siblings and I were raised by a family deeply rooted in music. My mother, Cara Malone, is the lead singer and founder of “Down Cellah” a Rock/Blues biker band traveling throughout New England. My father known as “Studilos” established a recording studio and had a passion for DJing in his early days. The two multiplied their talents and began a lineage of multifaceted creatives. I am the youngest of 5, being the only girl of the siblings, and over the years I have absorbed most of my music knowledge from my elder brothers. The four of them are skilled in writing, music production, performance, etc. My journey in music began professionally in 2019 when I stamped my artist name as “Jade Vanessa”. During high school,
I experimented with recording myself and producing beats, uploading music to SoundCloud as my primary platform. My first official release to reach Apple Music and Spotify platforms was “Change of Heart”, an EP my brother, Frost Dollar, helped to mix, master, and execute under his independent label “1k Entertainment” at the time. The turning point in my artistry was initiated by “Reckless”, a single released in 2020, produced by Frost Dollar. My eldest brother based in Los Angeles for over 20 years, Nazz Travagant, got word of this project and immediately saw the potential to jumpstart my career as a full-time independent artist. It wasn’t too long after that my two brothers worked hand in hand to book the next flight to California that same month. Nazz took the lead in directing and filming my first official music video to upload to YouTube. From that point on, my brothers recognized a light that I had yet to see in myself. Shortly after, I took a two-year hiatus from music just as things were beginning to elevate, which stirred many questions about whether or not I was ready for the journey. However, that time away didn’t bring my creativity to a halt. I began working with my brothers, producer Juisemoney and artist Humble Thrillskin who influenced my development sonically. Nearing the end of 2021, I independently dropped an EP titled, “before the peak.” and following that, I began 2022 off by packaging my first album “Ocean.” After these two projects, I began to feel confident in my artistic vision. My following grew steadily and I was exposed to more opportunities throughout Lynn, MA where the creative hub was strongest. I finally felt prepared to take the proposal to continue my artistic development in Los Angeles. In March 2022, I took a solo trip to meet with Nazz, which introduced a new sound and led to a new catalog under the name “JVDE”. Since then, I’ve dedicated my life’s journey to music and relocated to California permanently.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Uprooting my life from Boston brought challenges while navigating Los Angeles. Building resources, connections, and opportunities from scratch became easier with the help of my brother’s independent label, Wextraordinary Music Group. My artist presence was nourished and developed under the umbrella of affiliated artists, Honey Doll and Paris B. I had many things to learn and be exposed to in the music industry as LA is a far different playing field than Boston, MA.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter, specializing in variations of R&B but versatile when it comes to collaborative work. I’m known for my ability to authentically translate personal growth through music and convey emotions poetically. What sets my art apart from others is the dual nature and balance of my lyricism, emphasizing and highlighting the way I think about things from multiple perspectives.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
These past 3 years in California, I’ve been curating a focused sound for my debut album as JVDE. Be on the lookout for my biggest project yet.
