Life & Work with Jacoby of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacoby.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a published manga artist as well as an actor based in Los Angeles.

My journey with manga started over five years ago when I was still living in Oregon. After graduating from the university of Oregon, I decided to publicly announce my decision to work on manga through TikTok. The following morning, I woke up with over 4 thousand new followers and my video announcing my manga exploded with views. There was now an obligation I made to my new group of supporters. 4 months later, I published the first chapter to my series called Land Past The Sea.

My series collected over 200k readers and my social medias collective following jumped to over 135k followers, establishing myself as a content creator.

I later moved to the beautiful city of Los Angeles in search of opportunity and I quickly found it. Sharing my art through city walks, receiving personal invitations from TikTok to attend their creator events,
and meeting many of the friends I made through social media. One of these friends from social media is a director named Garrett Lee Pollack. He introduced me to acting which I found myself deeply fascinated by. Acting in a way, connects very strongly to what I do with manga. I’m telling a story and trying my best to show emotions that make the viewers feel.

Now, I’ve gone full renaissance and I’m trying to become the most successful artist I can be through acting and manga.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Time is the challenge of any creative. I haven’t reached the point in my career where I can create full time so juggling my time with work at my non-art related job, and sacrificing every ounce of my leisure time to creating is an exhausting way to live but I absolutely love it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My manga Land Past The Sea is based on Greek Mythology and I illustrate each page traditionally. Nothing more than a piece of paper, a dip pen and a tub of ink.
Creating in such an old school manor within a world full of digital art and AI is what’s come to set me apart from many others.

With the rise of AI, I believe people have come to appreciate traditional forms of art more than ever.
