Life & Work with Heaven Beam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heaven Beam.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Building my personal brand began with a small spark of enthusiasm to build a better life and I’ve worked hard to hold on to that over the years. I started using Instagram as a platform to model and influence in 2018. At the time I was in school getting my master’s degree to become a Marriage & Family Therapist living the busy college life. My intention has always been to use my platforms to make a positive impact and inspire others, build a personal brand and launch a business.

Besides being an influencer, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I was a kid I used to tell my homegirl we should open a shop (which ended up just being us grabbing stuff from our apartment putting it in a backpack and selling it to the neighbors) but I feel like I’ve always had ideas for different businesses and ways to have a bigger impact on the world throughout life. That’s what I’m working on executing now.

That’s how my business Heaven Beam Beauty came into fruition. What’s funny is I actually became passionate about making skincare in 2016 which I let go of at the time due to a lack of time and resources. In 2021, I told myself it was time to move forward with it and make it happen, no excuses. And that’s exactly what I did. I spent long nights often staying up until daylight to make it become a reality over the course of a few months. One of my goals with Heaven Beam Beauty is to support my clinical work as a therapist through building a wellness company and ultimately giving back to the community in a real way. I feel like aside from attaining my own personal freedom and reaching goals, paying it forward, in the end, has always been a primary source of motivation for me. That’s what matters to me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles and had many of the ups and downs that come along with being an inner-city native. I have relied on my resilience to make it through tough times in life. Most people don’t know my struggles and just assume I’ve always been good. My family didn’t come from much and we were on section 8 up until I went to college. I’ve also have had to work through anxiety and depression amongst other things and didn’t always believe in myself. It took a lot of internal and external work to get to where I am today. I had my own set of struggles trying to “adult” along with close deaths, betrayal, and heartbreak that wore on my motivation in my 20s.

Additionally, I originally did not have the means to pursue my passions and projects. I’ve had unfinished business projects in the past due to a lack of clarity and resources when in the development process. Luckily, I get easily inspired through life experiences and have remained hopeful despite the things that have happened to me. I always try to remind myself that things don’t happen TO me they happen FOR me. A good mindset shift is everything! Either way, I am truly grateful things have changed for me as I’ve persisted.

I prefer to focus on healing the past and doing my best in the present. That way when I share with the world, I don’t empty my cup, you know? At the end of the day we all have a story. I just try to exercise humility, resilience, love and grace against my experiences in order to overcome it all. And I try to spread that same strength to others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In day-to-day life, I’m a clinical therapist working towards licensure (hint: wellness company coming soon), entrepreneur, model, and content creator working to keep on with contributing to the world in meaningful ways. My goal and hope is that as I continue to grow as an entrepreneur, clinician and content creator I’m able to pay it forward, for real.

I’m a boss babe at heart and I’m always working towards evolving personally and professionally. It actually took me a while to take credit for that. A lot of people throughout the years have always told me I motivate them because they see what I’ve been through and how I have been able keep pushing on. Simply put, I have never really seen myself inside a box and plan to continue to evolve in a way that feels right to me. Letting my intuition guide me, you know?  Although, at the moment I would say I’m spending a lot of time working on self, healing & growing – that’s first.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
God, that’s number one. Kind of weird but – I feel like there was always like this guardian angel (that accepted and understood me when the world couldn’t) with me my whole life that has eased things along (my thinking comes from things working out better than they should even when the odds were stacked up against me).

Although I’ve done a lot of things on my own in life, I would be lying if I didn’t say people haven’t helped me along the way. I’m truly blessed to have come across a lot of the people I’ve met in my life – everyone, from the people who have helped a lot to those who did what they could deserve credit. I believe in the butterfly effect, so from my perspective everything is connected.

My mom was a young mom – having me at seventeen and my brother at thirteen, then my sister shortly after. She truly did the best that she could and worked to be a good example to us. My father taught me about breaking generational curses and learning to think before I acted. He gave me a lot of the love and discipline I needed as a child. Overall, they were both young, so I feel like I watched my parents grow as I grew. This really helped mold me at a young age.

And I can’t forget the people at my schools throughout childhood. I wouldn’t say I was a well-behaved kid (i.e. childhood trauma) I went to an elementary school in the inner city, but I was really smart, and teachers/administrators took to me. looked out for me and would always try to help and redirect me. I used to have adult like conversations about life with my teachers at a young age and I could tell that they really wanted the best for me, so it inspired me to do better in the long run.In high school. I was blessed then to have a counselor Ms. Cook (s/o to her) who saw I needed guidance, as well. She introduced me to the CO-OP Upward Bound program (college prep program) which is the reason I ended up in college which enabled me to grow SO much as an individual.

“And last but not least, I want to thank me.”– Snoop Dogg, haha.
