Life & Work with Gloria Arteaga of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Arteaga.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Lima, Peru. As a visual artist, besides my work as a fine artist, I did some experimental animation and video art too, so I got the chance to show my work in my country and other countries for a while. I felt very grateful for that experience and for the people that I met during those years. However, after a while, I felt that I needed a change and decided to follow another dream.

I have loved anime and animation ever since I was little, and I was very intrigued by the process of creating an animation from nothing, the design, and storytelling. I decided to move to the USA to study and look for a second career in animation. I landed in Games after my studies for a bit, and now I’m working in an Animation Studio, very happy with that! During my free time, I do some plein air painting and still life, which I love!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was no easy path moving to the US, learning a new language, and changing careers. However, I just followed my heart even though I felt a bit lonely at the beginning. I tried to focus on the positive things more than the obstacles, and was grateful for all of the learning and the people that I met along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I work as a Visual Development Artist for an Animation TV show. I love designing the sets, props, and doing color. I enjoy working with color and lighting, so every time there is a chance to explore a mood I try to do my best.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Yeah I think luck is something that helps, but I don’t think we should take it for granted. I think discipline and commitment are more important.
