Gina DeAngelis

Hi Gina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Gina Marie DeAngelis is an award-winning Local 706 Hairstylist whose visionary craft and passion for storytelling have shaped some of today’s film and television looks. Originally from the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Illinois, Gina grew up with a deep wanderlust and an innate desire to create instilled in her through annual family escapes to her “second home” in the Caribbean island of Anguilla. Driven by that creative spark, she graduated high school early to attend Pivot Point International, expanding her technique with studies abroad in Italy. Her artistic path was forever changed by her grandmother, “Oma” a force in the fashion print world who, alongside her parents Angela and Arnold DeAngelis and stepmother Donna, championed Gina to chase her dreams to California, collaborate endlessly, and throw herself into every opportunity.
Starting her career in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, Gina focused on fashion and print work before signing with a boutique agency. Her career took a massive leap forward while studying at Make-up Designory (MUD). While still in school, she booked a major Paul Mitchell commercial, quickly followed by a music video set where she found herself on set grooming legendary artists like Cypress Hill, Pitbull, That whirlwind experience solidified her calling in the entertainment industry.
After years of mastering both hair and makeup, Gina joined the prestigious IATSE Local 706 Guild as a hairstylist. Over her 18 years based in Los Angeles, she has built a standout resume from serving as Hair Department Head for the Playboy Midsummer Night’s Dream and Art Department events to leading departments on fan-favorite TV shows and major feature films.
Recently, Gina served as Assistant Department Head on One Battle After Another, Under Ahou Mofid! where her team took home the coveted Guild Award for Best Contemporary Hair Design for a Feature-Length Motion Picture. Her impressive roster of recent credits includes serving as Hair Department Head for the Los Angeles Unit of A24’s upcoming biopic Tony, personal hairstylist to Johnny Depp alongside Rocky Faulkner for Ebenezer at San Diego Comic-Con, Key Hairstylist for Season 2 of The Madison, and Key Hairstylist on It’s Florida, Man season 3 Viewers can also spot her work on Apple TV’s hit series Lucky. That is out now!
When she isn’t transforming characters on set, Gina stays true to her global roots by traveling the world, taking international masterclasses to continuously sharpen her craft, and exploring new inspirations. Exceptionally grateful for her incredible network of creative collaborators, friends, and the unwavering support of her husband, Morgan DeAngelis, Gina remains as passionate as ever about the craft of hair design and is always looking forward to her next big creative venture.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the world of film and television, the only constant is change. Industry tides are continually shifting, requiring professionals to adapt at a moment’s notice whether running a fast-paced set on location across the globe or navigating production schedules right here in Los Angeles. Yet, even through sweeping industry transformations, staying in high spirits and maintaining a collaborative mindset is key: there is room for everyone to succeed, and work will always find those who are ready for it. On a personal level, overcoming major hurdles has only deepened that drive. After navigating three neurosurgeries in 2020, returning to set meant hitting the ground running and never looking back. Facing those health challenges head-on proved that resilience is a superpower both on and off set. Today, the energy is centered entirely on the future excited for what lies ahead, eager for the next creative chapter, and deeply committed to supporting and uplifting the extraordinary community of artists who make this industry thrive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Audiences can catch Gina’s vibrant vision across major releases, including her recent role as Hair Designer for Shaboozey’s 1800s period piece, “Born to Die” a stunning historical dive where she had the pleasure of bringing on powerhouses Jen Singleton and Ryan Randall. Her craftsmanship is also on display in the hit series Lucky, currently streaming on Apple TV, as well as the eagerly anticipated second season of The Madison. Looking ahead, Gina is diving into several exciting feature films, including serving as Hair Designer alongside Clifton Collins Jr. on the upcoming project She Calls Me Pedro.

What makes you happy?
For Gina, true happiness extends far beyond the high-energy excitement of a film set. At its core, joy is found in the moments shared with the people she loves, surrounded by good company, creating unforgettable memories, and enjoying quiet downtime with her beloved golden retriever, Lincoln. Her journey has served as a powerful reminder that while a career can be a passion, real fulfillment comes from what you make out of life as a whole. When she isn’t behind the scenes designing hair looks, Gina’s heart is happiest when she is exploring somewhere new, building lifelong memories, and savoring every moment with her inner circle.
