Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Alvarez.
Hi Gabrielle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out as a makeup artist on the east coast, working the wedding circuit in Charleston, South Carolina. With a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, I knew starting a social platform on Instagram could provide a portfolio that could spread out from my small town. I picked up and moved to LA after I graduated and began to find my strong and beautiful community of like-minded individuals and a strong client base.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would definitely not say my road has been smooth, but it has always felt very right. Like I’m almost being pulled on the journey I am meant to take. I handle a lot of my business myself, so that is a challenge but one I feel strongly about.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a makeup artist specialists in editorial and print work, however, I am multidisciplinary and come from a background in portrait photography. I am also a creative director for brands and compile their full vision for their campaigns, consisting of makeup and photo work. I pride myself on collecting ideas for brands and executing their vision through makeup and the use of light and shadow.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been strong-willed and creative. I wanted to be an artist at six years old and I feel proud that I’m honoring my child self through adulthood. I have always been playful and imaginative, yet confident in who I am.
